Overview

The Division of Community and Campus Engagement (C&CE) at Utah State University (USU) Eastern is seeking a highly organized and people-oriented person to serve as the Media Specialist. The primary purpose of the Media Specialist is to move forward critical public relations projects in the C&CE Division. This position serves as a member of the Eastern PR Task Force, takes quality photographs and video at events, produces video, assists with posting social media, and assists with campus events.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a contributing member of the Eastern PR (Public Relations) Task Force
  • Shoots still photographs at various USU Eastern events (e.g., community events, commencement, athletic contests)
  • Shoots video at various USU Eastern events
  • Produces video for use on websites and social media
  • Helps with posting content on USU Eastern social media
  • Writes articles/posts for various types of media
  • Partners with other marketing and public relations personnel to move forward projects
  • Builds and maintains the positive brand for USU, Eastern, and the division of Community and Campus Engagement
  • Handle confidential information with tact and discretion
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Assists with the marketing and coordination of campus events including the Eastern Leaders Academy, the Legacy Dinner, Town Ties, and others
  • Assists with special events such as open houses and outreach and community events
  • Seeks opportunities for efficiency improvement of existing processes

  • Designs and conducts surveys, collects information, and identifies trends
  • Creates and maintains reports and data visualizations to aid in the delivery and understanding of data

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in photography and videography
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface effectively with all levels of personnel at the university
  • Strong ability to communicate knowledge and ideas in a consultative matter, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated with an aptitude to learn quickly and comprehend technical concepts
  • Proficient in using the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to plan and manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with USU policies and procedures
  • Experience in marketing and public relations in a rural community

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

It is imperative that the Media Specialist have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to act with tact and discretion. Additionally, the specialist must be able to communicate with people from various backgrounds and cultures. It is important that the specialist be energetic, dynamic, motivated, responsible, a leader, and a problem solver. The specialist should also be autonomous, hardworking, well organized, and take initiative without direct supervision. The specialist must be able to brainstorm and collaborate well with other colleagues, sometimes across multiple campuses. The specialist must complete assignments while balancing multiple tasks at one time, without direct supervision. It is also important that the specialist be comfortable with ongoing assessment and change.

Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. As photos and video are edited, incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

 

Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. As a photographer and videographer, bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
