Overview

The Training/Dev Specialist II serves as a subject matter expert and uses technical knowledge to develop curriculum and to design and deliver training for disability support professionals, families, and other stakeholders. The Training/Development Specialist II must have the knowledge and skills to develop synchronous and asynchronous formats. This position also produces and edits instructional videos and implements project policies and guidelines.

 

This position reports to the IDRPP Research and Training Division Director and has no supervisory responsibilities. 

 

This position is eligible for hybrid telework in the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Consults as a subject matter expert in the assigned area.
  • Designs, develops, and evaluates curriculum and instructional materials for adult learners, including disability support professionals, families, and other stakeholders, applying adult learning principles in both synchronous (live, instructor-led) and asynchronous (self-paced, online) formats.
  • Plans, writes, and produces training videos, including scripting, storyboarding, recording, and screen capture.
  • Edits videos and related multimedia, including adding captions, graphics, and narration, and ensures all media meet accessibility standards.
  • Delivers live training to disability support professionals, families, and other audiences in one-on-one, on-site, virtual, and group formats, including workshops, webinars, and seminars.
  • Develops and evaluates products for disability professionals and families
  • Evaluates training effectiveness through learner feedback, assessments, and outcome data, and uses the results to revise content and delivery.
  • Ensures that training and consulting processes are adequately documented.
  • Assists in developing reports and proposals.
  • Collaborates on presentations, publications, and proposals.
  • Writes articles, blogs, tip sheets, and other media as requested.
  • Implements project policies and guidelines.
  • Designs, implements, executes, and completes multiple local, state, and federal projects.
  • Generates new and innovative project ideas.
  • May write and submit grant proposals.
  • Disseminates project outcomes and results through statewide and national presentations and related publications.
  • Serves on advisory boards and councils as requested.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and conferences as requested.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree in a relevant field (such as education, rehabilitation counseling, special education, instructional design, or a related discipline), plus experience designing adult training, producing and editing instructional video, and working in special education, disability services, or education-related programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of disability support systems.
  • Knowledge of instructional design models and adult learning theory, and skill in applying them to build effective training.
  • Skill in developing online and blended learning content, including using a learning management system (LMS) and authoring tools.
  • Skill in recording, editing, and producing training videos using video editing and screen-capture software.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (such as Section 508 and WCAG) for digital content, video, and captioning.
  • Skill in facilitating engaging live training, both in person and virtual.
  • Skill in adapting training content and communication for audiences with varied backgrounds, roles, and levels of experience, including families and non-professional learners.
  • Skill with computers, related software, and other technologies.
  • Ability to communicate across formats, including phone, email, and professional presentation.
  • Ability to deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Skill with databases and data analysis, including using data to evaluate training outcomes.

Frequent statewide travel, including travel to urban, rural, and frontier communities, is required; occasional overnight travel is expected. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel independently throughout the state are required.

The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
