  • Overview

    This position will assist the Education Director and camp leaders in conducting summer camp programs at the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter in Park City, Utah. Camp topics will include STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math), with a focus on environmental education.

     

    This position is intended as a leadership development opportunity for high school students. Camp counselors will work with youth entering Kindergarten through 8th grade, and will assist with daily camp duties as needed. Camp counselors will receive training on camp-specific topics, as well as working with youth. Camp counselors will be assigned various works to week through summer 2019 in June, July, and August.

    Responsibilities

    • Set up for and clean up after camp each day
    • Supervise campers to help provide a safe, organized, and educational camp environment
    • Help with and lead camp activities, such as lessons and games
    • Complete miscellaneous duties as assigned by Education Director and camp leaders
    • Attend camp counselor training

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 14 years old
    • Must be currently in high school, or a 2019 graduate
    • Ability and desire to work with youth, other teens, and adults
    • Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility
    • Good verbal communication skills
    • Must be able to help with indoor and outdoor activities, not limited to hiking, wading in streams, walking through wetland environment, crafts, games, and indoor lessons
    • Must be available to work at least 3 weeks of camp during summer 2019

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working with youth or in a summer camp setting
    • Interest in or relevant coursework in environmental science, science education, or other STEAM topics
    • Ability to speak Spanish
