  • Overview

    This full-time, one-year AmeriCorps VISTA position is hosted by the Public & School Partnership and is based at the Northern Utah Native Connection program that serves students in Cache County, Logan City, and Box Elder school districts. VISTA members with the Northern Utah Native Connection program work during school hours of operation to help school administration, teachers, and other staff to develop programs to implement and evaluate attendance, positive behavior support, and targeted academic interventions that benefit Native students. In addition, VISTA members will work alongside students, families, school volunteers, administration, faculty, and staff to improve efforts to support the academic success and school experience of Native students. 

     

    AmeriCorps VISTA is a National Service program. All AmeriCorps VISTA positions are full-time for one year, as mandated by the Corporation for National and Community service. Successful completion of a one-year service term qualifies all VISTA members for either an education award of $6095 or a cash stipend of $1800 (direct deposit). The pay, a living stipend, is $1026 per month.

    Responsibilities

    This strong, dedicated team is looking for candidates who are collaborative team members but who can also work independently. Primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Working with school administration and teachers to develop academic and behavioral interventions that support Native student success
    • Educating and engaging parents, other family members, and community members
    • Collecting donations to support programs
    • Recruiting and training volunteers
    • Collecting and analyzing student data
    • Raising awareness of Native American history and cultures
    • Building partnerships with schools and community organizations

    Qualifications

    Minimum qualifications:

     

    • 18 years of age at the time of placement
    • U.S. citizen
    • Full-time commitment (40 hours/week) and one-year term of employment
    • Not on the National Sex Offenders Public Registry
    • Access to reliable transportation

    Preferred qualifications:

     

    • Experience working with school administration, staff, and/or school community council (volunteer- or job-related)
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Excel (or Google Sheets)
    • Community outreach and/or marketing experience (volunteer- or job-related)
    • Independent worker yet collaborative team member
    • Ability to work and feel successful without direct supervision
