  • Overview

    The EcoHost position staffs the front desk and public areas of the EcoCenter during the hours that the center is open. This person acts as the face of Swaner by greeting and assisting guests and orienting visitors to the center or directing them to other team members as appropriate, as well as carrying out associated activities. This person will engage guests, run tours, and attend to the general maintenance of the EcoCenter and exhibits. They will also help with traveling exhibits hosted in the space, special events, and youth education as needed.

     

    This position is part time and hours will often fall on weekends and occasional evenings.

    Responsibilities

    • Open and close EcoCenter, including all register, gift shop, building, and event duties
    • Assist in gift shop operations, including sales, inventory, and display appearance
    • Answer phones and take messages for Swaner's staff
    • Greet and log daily EcoCenter guests
    • Lead nature walk & LEED building tours
    • Run climbing wall while following all safety measures
    • Maintain a clean and organized building and exterior, including sweeping floors and deck, occasional litter pick up, organizing flyers, and other similar duties
    • Report building maintenance issues
    • Engage guests with information about the EcoCenter, the Preserve, and memberships
    • Help with set-up, tear-down, and hosting of special events held at the EcoCenter. This includes audio-visual equipment set-up and tear-down. This also involves engaging guests at a variety of events such as business meetings, fundraising events and nature tours
    • Frequent weekend shifts
    • Assist Swaner's staff and volunteers when needed
    • Others duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Customer service experience
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English
    • Works well in a team & comfortable with a flexible list of assignments
    • Ability to work weekends and nights
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to pleasantly interact with a wide variety of individuals
    • Job offer dependent on successful passing of a background check
    • Basic computer & math skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish
    • Content knowledge in: Environmental studies, Natural sciences such as watersheds, ecology, or zoology, Sustainability, Passion for the outdoors and nature
