The Utah State University (USU) Rehabilitation Counseling program (RCP) seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor with experience in psychiatric rehabilitation or mental health counseling and assessment. This is a full-time, academic year, 9-month position with the opportunity for summer employment dependent on the availability of funds. Review of applicants will begin November 15th, 2019 and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is August 2020.
The highly qualified candidate will be expected to collaborate with university and community professionals, build a strong research identity, and teach courses in the Master’s of Rehabilitation Counseling program. In addition to serving those with mental health concerns, special consideration would be given to applicants with a history of serving individuals with physical, cognitive, and intellectual disabilities with co-occurring mental health concerns, support structures for families, and serving the community.

Program Highlights
The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling is located in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. The department offers programs in Rehabilitation Counseling (Master’s), Special Education (Undergraduate, Master’s, Alternative Teacher Preparation), and the Ph.D. in Disability Disciplines with specializations in (a) counselor education and supervision, (b) special education, (c) applied behavior analysis, (d) speech/language pathology, (e) audiology, (f) pathokinesiology, and (g) disabilities studies. Faculty value a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to the inclusion of people with disabilities across the lifespan. Graduates of this doctoral program are preparing for leadership in university faculty roles. All doctoral students are expected to conduct and publish research, complete systematic literature reviews, present at conferences, teach courses, supervise students, and write grants.
Graduates from the USU RCP are prepared as rehabilitation counselors who work with individuals with disabilities and their families. The USU RCP faculty teach on-campus and distance students using synchronous and asynchronous delivery; teaching both in-person and via web broadcasting over the internet. The USU RCP is fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and is ranked 15th in the nation by the U.S. News and World Report (2019). Over the last six years, an average of 22 degree-seeking students were enrolled in the program per year. Ninety-five percent of our graduates pass the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) examination on the first attempt and are hired in rehabilitation counselor positions. Students are eligible for other national certifications and pass the required examinations at high rates as well.

Faculty have the opportunity to work with numerous state rehabilitation organizations, and on-campus programs such as: various community clinics housed within the Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence (https://scce.usu.edu ), the Center for Persons with Disabilities (a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities), the EmployAbility Clinic (which provides employment services to individuals with disabilities in the community), and the Aggies Elevated program (an on-campus residential post-secondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities) and other grant-funded projects (e.g., the Utah Assistive Technology Program, the National Center on Disability and Access to Education (NCDAE), and Autism Support Services - Education Research, and Training (ASSERT)).
Additionally, faculty have access to the new Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence (100,000 square foot clinical services building that houses close to 30 different human services programs and clinics). The highly qualified candidate would play a key role in collaborating with existing partners and faculty to develop and establish an active counseling clinic within the Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence that would provide vocational assessment and training, social skills courses for adults with autism, and clinical mental health services (e.g., assessment, individual and group therapy).
