  • Overview

    Utah State Extension is hiring a Coordinator of Programs in the Grand County Extension Office in Moab, UT.  Candidates need to have a positive attitude and excellent work ethic as this position will keep the office open and work closely with the public, extension staff, and assist in facilitating and or teaching various extension programs.

    Responsibilities

    Major Responsibilities Program Assistant:

    • Assist County Director with all Extension programs including implementing, advertising, presenting, and as assigned development.
    • Main programming area: Family and Consumer Science topics including parenting, relationships, and finance.
    • Secondary programming area: 4-H and youth.
    • Obtain necessary certifications for involvement in programs if needed.
    • Assist in program preparations as needed, such as copying handouts, developing program packets, and other duties.
    • Assist in the marketing of USU Extension Grand County programs through the development of ads, flyers, brochures, and social media, etc.
    • Provide the public with educational information.
    • Assist in the development of announcements, letters, emails, newsletters and typing of narratives, reports, minutes, agendas, and other documents.
    • As directed, attend appropriate trainings (for example: potential program assistant trainings). These and any other trainings must be pre-approved by the county director.
    • As needed, organize, maintain, and file all materials.

    Major Responsibilities Office Assistant:

    • Develop an understanding of the resources available through Extension to assist the public in finding requested information when the county director is out of the office.
    • Assist in management of mail (incoming/outgoing), bills, and other paperwork.
    • Assist with development/changing of Extension bulletin and information boards.
    • Assist with updating of USU Grand County Website and updating of USU Grand County social media (Facebook).
    • Perform other office needs as required, such as answering phones and taking messages as needed.
    • Be proactive in office upkeep.

    Other:

    • Keep County Director informed of activities and progress in assigned duties.
    • Undertake other duties as assigned by the County Director.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Two years of related experience, or an Associates degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 
    • Have a working knowledge and skills using office equipment (computer, copy machine, fax).
    • Confidence in ability to present to large groups.
    • Good knowledge of Microsoft office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook) and knowledge of or ability to learn other programs such as PowerPoint and Publisher.
    • Exhibit good written and oral communication skills.
    • Have a genuine interest in people, ability to work effectively with all adults and youth.
    • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision once tasks are assigned, but be a team player with a positive attitude and able to work with county director, other staff, and volunteers on projects.
    • Must have access to reliable transportation.
    • Must complete other required University trainings.
    • Meet all challenges that arise with an attitude of positive solution.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree.
    • Current knowledge of social media and experience in developing and managing social media accounts.
    • Current knowledge in designing signs, flyers, ads, documents, awards, etc., for Extension activities using programs such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro among others.
    • Able to work flexible hours if required to meet other Extension program schedules.
    • Meet all challenges that arise with an attitude of positive solution.
    • Ability to communicate in Spanish.
