Overview

Position Summary – Temporary Summer Employment

 

The Youth Conference Facilitator works under the direction of the Youth Conference Coordinators to provide logistical support for the summer youth conferences held on the USU campus. The position will facilitate youth conference events and work as a team member to facilitate all related program activities and special events.

 

The team will be facilitating over 45 different events and approximately 5,000 participants on campus between May 28, 2020 and August 1, 2020. The Youth Conference Facilitator must use discretion and independent judgment as well as exceptional customer service in the performance of conference and event related activities.

 

Event Services will arrange for the incumbent to attain required certifications including food handler's permit, USU golf cart permit, USU driver training, and CPR/First Aid certifications following the hiring process. Background check will be conducted on all finalists.

 

The job requires working evenings, including Friday evenings, and weekends.
Beginning Date: Monday, May 4, 2020
Ending Date: Friday, August 14, 2020

Responsibilities

1. On-site Conference Facilitation Percentage of Time: 95%


Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and conducting welcome and orientation sessions for the entire group and the chaperones;
  • Setting up and conducting the check-in and check-out process for the residence halls;
  • Monitoring all meal functions, swimming and gymnasium activities, and all other group activities;
  • Pre-inspection to ensure all meeting rooms and special event facilities are ready prior to group's arrival;
  • Troubleshooting AV issues as they arise. Must have ability to solve problems and think outside the box.
  • Setting up, conducting and participating in Aggie Games, which are a series of outdoor games including volleyball, frisbee, smash ball, water games, climbing wall, etc.;
  • Monitoring and participating in the group dance.
  • Set up, takedown, and monitor Movie nights. Set up 30' movie screen, projector and sound system.

2. Assist the team with other duties as assigned. Percentage of Time: 5%

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Exceptional customer service abilities and outgoing personality.
  2. Experience working in a team environment.
  3. Must be hard working, dependable, and prompt.
  4. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  5. Ability to work well in and remain pleasant in stressful situations.
  6. MUST be patient and positive, particularly while working with large groups in noisy conditions.
  7. Ability to work weekends and nights and possibly holidays throughout summer. 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience working with youth ages 12-18.
  2. Experience with low and high ropes course elements and experiential education facilitation.

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. The incumbent may also be exposed to loud noises, vibrations, from equipment, and conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects around 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
