Tutor will work face-to-face with USU Kaysville students and online via video-conferencing technology with students at statewide regional campuses.


Tutor will help students with: 

  • Interpret assignment requirements 
  • Analyze purpose and audience to plan, develop, and organize content 
  • Identify and correct grammar and punctuation errors 
  • Improve research strategies and evaluate and integrate source information effectively 
  • Document primary and secondary research sources in MLA and APA styles



For this position, tutor must: 

  • Use guiding questions to lead student-directed consultation sessions 
  • Adapt to different writing competencies and language backgrounds of traditional and nontraditional students 
  • Understand conventions of academic genres for multidisciplinary undergraduate and graduate students, including research papers, lab reports, theses, proposals, job materials, and creative writing 
  • Work with USU faculty members to understand assignment requirements and report on students’ consultation sessions 
  • Use computer software, including Microsoft Word and Cisco Webex 
  • Have strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Earn a B or higher in ENGL 1010: Introduction to Academic Writing and ENGL 2010: Intermediate Writing

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
