Overview

A Business Assistant II is needed to support the USU STARS! GEAR UP program’s business needs.  We are looking for a highly organized individual with great customer service skills, who can work with limited supervision, to support the business aspects of the grant management. The successful candidate will manage grant budgets and the invoice process, support partners through regular communication and training, and ensure grant compliance with associated policies, procedures, and expectations under the supervision/guidance of the Business Manager and Program Director. Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federally-funded program that was designed to help students prepare for and succeed in college. Housed in the USU’s School of Teacher Education and Leadership, USU STARS! runs four GEAR UP grants, serving over 12,000 students throughout the state of Utah. The positive work environment provides professional development opportunities, fast-paced programmatic and budget maintenance, and an opportunity to make a difference in the community.

 

This position is contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a resource to school partners in invoice processing and match fulfillment. 
  • Develops and prepares monthly spend down and annual performance reports as needed. 
  • Coordinates with Project Director and Business Manager for the smooth operation of the program and administrative support staff. 
  • Ensures all business procedures are consistent with grant and university policies. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 years of directly-related financial or research administration work experience with increasing responsibilities; or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or Finance/Business related area; or an equivalent combination of related education plus directly-related experience is required. 
  • Competent in the use of computer programs including Excel (including expert experience with formulas and spreadsheets), Windows and other applications. 
  • Experienced in managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines. 
  • Proactive in resolving issues, setting up processes, and providing high-level customer service. 
  • Job offer contingent upon successfully passed background check. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in grant/research management. 
  • Working knowledge of Banner finance modules. 
  • Knowledge of USU financial policies. 
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance.
