Overview

Incumbents in the Network Systems Specialist series provide enterprise-wide network systems where network includes voice, data, and video; evaluate and recommend solutions; plan and execute implementation; and maintain familiarity with standard security, privacy, communications, and telecommunications protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provides analysis, design, development, documentation, creation, testing, or modification of electronic network systems and programs.
  • Designs, programs, manages, and creates advanced enterprise class local, wide, and wireless area networks, firewall, and routing systems.
  • Programs custom network monitoring and configuration systems to protect and maintain USU's critical network.
  • Setup and maintain the campus Wireless Infrastructure.
  • Works with a variety of vendors, partners, teams, and customers across the institution regarding the design of network hardware, software, and other system functional specifications to define and meet needs within the specific scope of this position. Analyze tools and procedures and identify areas of improvement.
  • Creates and updates online support documentation using specified online tools and procedures.
  • Documents and responds to service requests through the online "Issue Management" system.
  • Provides end-user support and follow-up on support given.
  • Contributes to developing plans, schedules, and requirements for the deployment of systems.
  • Maintains current and correct documentation, adhere to codes, specifications and University standards.
  • Creates and updates online support documentation using specified online tools and procedures.
  • Proactively audits University data systems, networks, services, and users for vulnerabilities and threats; responds to identified threats.
  • Responsible for the computer network, including but not limited to, wireless network, wired Local Area Network (LAN), security camera network, network switches.
  • Maintain phone system networks and oversees the interactive conferencing classrooms (IVC) and other audio and video equipment.
  • Maintain Access door hardware and time of access scheduling.
  • See that all network needs are met with the staff, faculty, and students.
  • Reporting on network security issues and to assist Logan in correcting these security issues.
  • Inventory tracking.
  • Working with multiple vendors and supplies of network connectivity issues, to include but not limited to UEN, USU-Logan IT Department, and local communication vendors (Strata).
  • Assist regional IT department with IT-related tasks and projects. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Associate's degree or certification in a related field plus four years of related work experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of work plus experience is required.
