The Empowering Financial Wellness (EFW) program is a grant-funded, research-based, financial education program designed to empower improved financial decision-making skills though online and in-person financial education experiences, and professional development training opportunities. The primary duty of the EFW Program Coordinator position is to work with faculty PI’s to provide day-to-day community outreach and education activities (webinars, train-the-trainer events, online courses, etc.) in Salt Lake county and across Northern Utah. EFW employees will teach such topics as: money habits and attitudes, tracking expenses, budgeting, saving, paying down debt, etc. To carry out this project, the EFW Program Coordinator responsibilities will also include recruiting, creating resources, social media outreach, etc. Applicants should be able to work well independently and in a team. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.

This is a 3-year, grant-funded position. Job offer in contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.



  • Designs, coordinates, and implements the aspects of the EFW program.
  • Plan and promote community outreach and education events on topics such as but not limited to: money habits and attitudes, tracking expenses, budgeting, saving, credit, paying down debt, etc. geared towards target audiences including low income, women and educators/faculty.
  • Facilitates seminars, meetings, train-the-trainer programs in multiple counties.
  • Serves as a liaison between faculty, staff, other departments, and collaborates with community agencies and partners to carry out project goals.
  • Serve as first-line representative for the program in providing exceptional service to clients, prospective clients, faculty, and partners.
  • Produce and distribute bi-monthly email newsletters, end of year reports, etc.
  • Arrange meetings and appointments as needed.
  • Program planning and implementation: recruit, teach, and mentor participants through program completion.
  • Monitors and administers program revenues and expenses; may develop or participate in the development of permanent funding proposals for the program.
  • Writes, edits, and coordinates development of promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the program.
  • Works with faulty PI to collect and analyze data; prepare scheduled and special reports; maintain program records and statistical information.
  • Ensures completion of clerical and administrative support tasks, including creation, typing, and editing of program correspondence, purchasing documents, reports, program handbooks, and other publications.
  • May maintain and create content for EFW program website.
  • Performs specialized activities of a programmatic nature in direct support of the accomplishment of program objectives and protocol.
  • Contributes to business and operational decisions that affect the department.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree in a related field plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field plus 1 year of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

  • Strong written, oral, organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and coordinate multiple tasks efficiently;
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office applications, document sharing, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with program planning and implementation.
  • Knowledge and experience with recruiting, teaching, and mentoring participants through program completion.
  • Ability to provide educational outreach through social media and other online outlets.
  • Experience supervising and coordinating employees or volunteers.
  • Experience working with community agencies and volunteers.
  • Prior knowledge of and ability to teach personal finance topics such as but not limited to: money habits and attitudes, tracking expenses, budgeting, saving, credit, paying down debt, etc.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion;
  • Candidate must be extremely reliable due to the job requirements which may occur outside of the regular work week;
  • Demonstrate excellent customer relations skills;
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and work without close supervision;
  • Ability to travel to programs (mileage will be reimbursed).
  • Knowledge of USU Extension mission and programming a plus.
  • Communicating: Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of grant budgeting and reconciling.
  • Previous teaching or public speaking experience.
  • Recruiting and promotion experience or creative ideas.
  • Knowledge of the mission of Cooperative Extension.
  • Experience working with limited income and at-risk populations.
  • Remote work experience.
  • Experience with Canvas (learning management system); Webinar services (Zoom), Social media marketing experience.
