The College of Science Business Services Team seeks a Business Manager I to manage and coordinate the business operations of the Department of Physics. Incumbent will oversee activities such as budget preparation and control, human resources administration, accounts payable and receivable, and contract and grant accounting.

The Business Manager I reports to the College of Financial Officer and will work closely with the head, faculty and staff in the Department of Physics. This position may train and guide other Business Services staff in the College of Science.


  • Functions as a primary resource and business consultant to Department Head, faculty and business services staff in the Department of Physics and the College of Science
  • Oversees and manages daily activities and transactions within assigned area, including p-card, financial banner, travel, and personnel functions
  • Coordinates financial aspects of proposals, contracts, grants, etc. Assists staffs in administering proposals to ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies
  • Performs budget preparation, budget reconciliation, EPAF creation, data management, and fiscal information support
  • Ensures payroll is properly recorded and processed
  • Develops and maintains databases
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of financial/business/management related responsibilities OR a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or Finance/Business plus 1 year of experience
  • Competent in the use of computer programs including Microsoft Office and other applications
  • Ability to assist faculty, staff and students with questions or problems that are highly varied, require analysis or interpretation of the situation, and are solved using knowledge and skills, and general precedents and practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Familiar with various financial accounts and their uses.
  • Possesses and applies advanced skills and knowledge of financial principles, practices, and concepts to the position
  • Highly professional while working productively and independently on progressively more complex projects/assignments
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to make coherent and appropriate decisions in a timely manner
  • Contributes positively and proactively in a team environment in order to meet unit goals
  • Provides proactive and excellent customer service to constituents at all levels
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong work ethic--commits to integrity and performs duties with diligence
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of USU's Banner, AggieTime, EZBuy, Argos, and Hire-touch systems.
  • Knowledge/experience processing EPAFs in Banner
  • Knowledge/experience with Travel processes and procedures at USU
  • Knowledge/experience working with tuition waivers/scholarship processes at USU
  • Familiar with class recitation and lab procedures and how they relate to graduate student stipends
  • Familiar with USU Policies and Procedures
