Overview

The Merrill-Cazier Library at Utah State University seeks a dynamic, innovative and service-oriented candidate for the position of Online Learning Librarian. The Online Learning Librarian provides leadership and support on the design and implementation of creative e-learning materials. The successful candidate is also responsible for creating videos, tutorials, and course modules as needed. The candidate will collaborate closely with liaison librarians, others across the library, as well as instructional designers on campus to provide guidance and expertise regarding e-learning materials and pedagogy. The candidate would also serve as a liaison librarian to two or more academic departments.

 

Reporting to the Head of Learning & Engagement Services, the position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Learning & Engagement Services unit's core functions of teaching, learning, outreach, engagement, and instructional assessment.
  • Facilitate the use of library instruction materials in the Course Management System and other online environments while providing a positive user experience and ensuring compliance with ADA guidelines and higher education standards.
  • Oversee maintenance and creation of online materials in collaboration with teaching assistants to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Collaborate with staff across the library to support online learning initiatives and best practices for online teaching.
  • Work closely with First-Year Experience Librarian, Instruction Coordinator, Web Services Librarian, and others in Learning & Engagement Services to assess library instruction online, including integration with English composition and disciplinary courses.
  • Collect, share, and use tracking data to prioritize future creation projects and identify other priority areas in online learning.
  • Serve as a liaison librarian to two or more academic departments, which includes outreach, subject-specific instruction, reference, research support, and collection development.
  • Liaise with other campus offices supporting instruction and learning initiatives, especially Academic & Instructional Services.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities relevant to the needs of the position.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited MLS, or equivalent degree, by date of hire.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, particularly the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide variety of users in individual and group settings.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in pedagogy for e-learning and distance education.
  • Working knowledge of instructional technologies to support classroom and remote or asynchronous instruction.
  • Ability to collaborate, maintaining collegial working relationships with administrators, staff, and faculty.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills with a willingness to be flexible and experiment with new methods and technologies.
  • Ability to meet the university's requirements for tenure, including excellence in librarianship and effective scholarly output and service to the university and profession.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion issues, especially as applied to public services and library instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of issues related to developing and assessing learning modules and delivering and assessing online library instruction.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards for ADA compliance for online learning.
  • Project management experience.
  • Academic library experience.
