The LAEP Careers Coordinator advocates for career readiness/placement for LAEP students and professional practice. The Careers Coordinator assists current LAEP students in identifying and securing high quality planning and design internships, as well as assisting graduating students in identifying and securing professional positions.


  • Coordinate regularly with LAEP Faculty Advisor for Internships and Career Placement.
  • Assist in establishing, maintaining, and monitoring relationships with affiliated firms, agencies, etc.
  • Advocate for the placement of LAEP students in professional practice.
  • Promote the value of internships and encourage students to participate.
  • Identify and disseminate available positions with LAEP students. Make referrals when appropriate. Manage internship bulletin boards.
  • Assist LAEP students with position application and portfolio reviews.
  • Assist with maintaining LAEP database of alumni.
  • Track all internship and employment placement for department reporting.
  • Coordinate LAEP's Visiting Scholars & Practitioners programs (Canyon House Residence and LAEP Speaker Series).
  • Coordinate student involvement in LAEP's study abroad programs (Slovenia/Anhalt).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a similar professional setting OR a Associates degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and collaboration tools)
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and techniques
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Ability to interpret and apply various guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with landscape architecture and environmental planning professions and career related matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with students as well as industry professionals.
  • Ability to work with students in 1:1; as well as group settings.
  • Ability to coordinate guests to campus for residencies and lectures.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision.
  • General knowledge, or willingness to learn, of LAEP's academic program and requirements.
  • Career counseling experience.
  • Marketing experience.
