Overview

USU's Technology Transfer Services Student Intern (TTS) offers a unique opportunity for USU undergraduate and graduate students to gain in-depth experience with University Technology Transfer and Technology Commercialization. The experience is intended to enhance TTS's understanding of the commercial potential of inventions and technologies while providing USU students with a valuable educational experience.

 

Technology Transfer Services at Utah State University protects faculty, staff, and students' intellectual property and works with industry leaders to implement USU-generated technologies. The Technology Transfer team leverages USU intellectual, financial and creative assets while ensuring all legal obligations and sponsorship requirements are met.

 

Student Interns work closely with TTS staff on a part-time basis, providing support for invention assessments and technology marketing. 

Responsibilities

  • Conducting market and patentability analyses to determine commercial viability of University technologies. 
  • Understand the technology in question.
  • Conduct meetings with the inventors.
  • Research into size and accessibility of potential markets.
  • Identify value of propositions. 
  • Identify primary market.
  • Determine differences between the technology and existing products.
  • Conduct prior art searches and assessing patentability.
  • Other duties in the area of technology commercialization as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student. 
  • Attention to detail. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in STEM related field, Life Sciences or Electrical Engineering.
