Overview

Utah State University Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences seeks an hourly or full-time (29 hours/week) Laboratory Research Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day operations of a research laboratory focused on molecular/cellular biology and genetic engineering research.
  • Laboratory animal (rodent) breeding, taking care of animals (including but not limited to changing cages, supplying foods, etc.), animal colony maintenance, and genotyping analysis.
  • Other types of animal handling, including surgeries, and tissue collection.
  • Culture and other in vitro manipulations of animal cells, oocytes, and embryos.
  • Perform laboratory research, using molecular biology and cell culture techniques.
  • Manage junior lab personnel.
  • Assist lab manager and other lab personnel to order and receive laboratory supplies.
  • Help to maintain lab (monitoring and maintaining lab equipment, general lab chores).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years of relevant experience in a life science-related field, including a solid foundation in general biology, molecular biology and chemistry.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, hard-working, and detail-oriented.
  • Flexible with working schedules (animal breeding needs to be performed in early evenings, 6-8pm).
  • Passionate about the research in developing using animal models and care about the animals.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Great team player.

This position requires moderate physical effort.  Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including lifting up to 25 pounds, walking and standing.  Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
