Overview

Utah State University (USU) invites applications for the position of Business Manager I in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost – Business Services. The Business Manager I will oversee such activities as budget preparation, human resources administration, scholarship awards, travel and P-card reconciliation approval, payroll, and contracts and grants. Additional responsibilities include overseeing Provost reporting units, supervising one business assistant and training of Business Services-related policies and procedures.  The Business Manager I will report to the Financial Officer and is instrumental in providing business support and financial management to the assigned units along with support to the Provost’s office.

 

Review of applications will begin November 23, 2020 and posting will remain open until the position is filled.  The anticipated start date is January 4, 2021.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise Business Assistant supporting NEHMA and Career Services units.
  2. Provide budget support, data, and fiscal information to executive directors for the following Provost reporting units: Office of Analysis, Assessment, and Accreditation; Office of Equity; Honors Program; and University and Exploratory Advising.  Facilitate budget reconciliation and discrepancy resolution.
  3. Subject Matter Expert (SME) for human resource activities for Provost’s Office and reporting units. This includes training on EPAF, I-9, payroll, search and hiring, and onboarding processes.
  4. Subject Matter Expert (SME) for travel activities for Provost’s Office and reporting units.
  5. Process scholarship awards for Honors Program and reconcile accounts.
  6. Review EZBuy and P-card purchases at business services level to ensure accuracy and compliance with USU policies and procedures.
  7. Communicate with other USU departments regarding financial and procedural matters.
  8. Serve as back-up to Financial Officer when needed.
  9. Commit to integrity, perform duties with diligence in accordance with professional standards and enforce university policies and procedures.
  10. Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  11. Serve in the interest of Utah State University in a lawful manner while maintaining high standards of conduct and character.
  12. Handle confidential information and other financial/accounting responsibilities designated by the Financial Officer. Manage projects effectively and demonstrate reliability and strong work ethic.
  13. Provide customer service to reporting units and campus community in a professional manner.
  14. Assist with special projects as requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 6 years of financial/business/management related responsibilities OR a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field plus 2 years of experience.
  2. Knowledge of finance, accounting, and budgeting principles, and cost control procedures.
  3. Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  4. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  5. Strong computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  6. Ability to provide leadership, train others, and delegate workloads.
  7. Detail-oriented in own work as well as in reviewing work of others.
  8. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity, and discretion.
  10. Ability to take initiative and to work independently with limited supervision.
  11. Ability to measure performance of self, make improvements, and take appropriate corrective action.
  12. Ability to make coherent and appropriate decisions in a timely manner.
  13. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high level of professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 7 or more years of combined relevant education and experience.
  2. Knowledge of USU’s Banner, AggieTime, EZ-Buy, Argos, ServiceNow and iCIMS systems.
  3. Knowledge of contracting processes and associated local, state, federal, and other regulations.
  4. Familiar with AdobeSign.
  5. Familiar with USU Policies and Procedures.
