The Utah Assistive Technology Program (UATP) is located at the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University. The UATP Program Director is responsible for development, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and reporting of program activities (Equipment Loans, Equipment Reutilization, Equipment Demonstration (including AT Lab), State Financing Program (UATF), Training and Technical Assistance, and Consumer Satisfaction mandated by the Assistive Technology Act of 2004 for the State of Utah.

This federally funded program is statewide, comprehensive, and consumer responsive to Utahns with disabilities to promote access to and acquisition of assistive technology. The position is based in Logan.


  • Provide program leadership; establish goals and program activities with input from the UATP Advisory Council, UATP staff, CPD personnel and other stakeholders. Ensure consumer responsive policies and procedures in UATP activities (e.g., AT Council). Establish, review and enforce policies and procedures for program activities. Evaluate program effectiveness and impact on the lives of persons with disabilities.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise personnel for program implementation. Conduct and submit annual employee performance appraisals. Provide oversight and management for various annual state and federal budgets; annually develop, monitor and revise the UATP and related program budgets.
  • Prepare and submit reports in compliance with state, federal and/or private funder requirements and timelines. Monitor timely collection, management, and input of UATP data into the NATADS and NIRS data management systems. Oversee timely development and dissemination of current program information, materials and outcomes in various formats including the website structure and content in collaboration with staff and/or vendors.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities relevant to building assistive technology capacity. Develop and sustain collaborative relationships and activities with other local, state, and national disability-related organizations.
  • Serve as the public face and primary point of contact between the program and funding agencies and represent UATP throughout the state and national disability service systems. Participate on community-based organization boards and committees at the local, state, and national levels. Collaborate with AT and disability-related state agencies to conduct outreach and public awareness activities on a regular basis. Participate in disability advocacy activities, including legislative issues and policy development.
  • Provide direct assistive technology services to persons with disabilities, family members, service providers and other stake holders.
  • Travel as needed to all regions of the state to carry out job duties. Work collaboratively with other CPD programs/personnel to address and support the academic/research mission of USU.
  • Coordinate program and resource development activities and initiatives with the CPD director.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a disability related field such as special education, rehabilitation, psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, or a related field and five years’ work experience in a health, education or social services-related field.
  • Experience working with individuals with a broad range of disabilities and/or functional limitations across the age span. Broad-based knowledge and advanced application skills relevant to assistive technology products and services. Five years’ experience with assistive technology devices, training and/or service delivery.
  • Demonstrated program management experience, including staff supervision. Understanding of fiscal management, budget development and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant-writing and/or contract development for program development and sustainability.
  • Knowledge of laws and policies relating to people with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of laws and policies relating to assistive technology and accessibility.
  • Experience working with underrepresented/culturally diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years’ experience working in an Assistive Technology Center/Program with progressive levels of responsibility. ATP Credential or AT Certificate (or willingness to obtain within 12 months). Excellent time management and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills and group presentation abilities. Demonstrated ability to develop and manage ongoing programs or activities. Successful grant writing experience. Demonstrated fiscal and budgetary management skills.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly work including research and peer-reviewed publications.
