The Student Media team in the Student Involvement & Leadership office is accepting applications for an Office Assistant. This is a part-time, hourly position. The Office Assistant will assist with the day-to-day operations of Student Media. The position requires organizational skills and the successful candidate needs to be able to work independently and be a team player.


Student Media is constantly changing, which will impact this position. Because of this, we are looking for someone who is flexible and able to pivot quickly. A successful candidate must be willing to help where needed and learn a variety of skills. This position will work roughly 20 hours per week between 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. mid-August through April, hours during summer may be more flexible.


General Office Support:

  • Assist the Student Media advisors and students with day-to-day operations
  • Perform office duties: phone calls, emails, helping walk-ins, data entry, maintaining lists, etc.
  • Audit, verify, archive, publications, and fulfillment of advertising campaigns
  • Cleaning and organizing as needed
  • Attend university training staying current on policies and procedures


Financial Support:

  • Perform daily financial activities: sending invoices, processing payments, collections
  • Perform regular financial actives: account reconciliations and running reports
  • Communicates with others, within and outside USU, regarding financial matters
  • Make purchases in accordance with university policies and procedures


Personnel Support:

  • Assist in posting positions, processing paperwork, and payroll
  • Maintain records of student employment positions, pay, etc.
  • Collaborate with Student Affairs Business Services



  • Assist advisors and students with all travel-related needs
  • Maintain current emergency information on travelers
  • Maintain database of travel expense reports


Equipment Management:

  • Maintains accurate equipment inventory and assists with annual audit
  • Ensure new equipment purchases get tagged in accordance with USU policy


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of related work experience or an associate's degree
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proven communication skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software
  • Flexibility in helping with tasks and projects
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to stay on task and complete work with minimal supervision
  • Exceptional listener and communicator who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple projects
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions or work assignments
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PR and Marketing and social media management
  • Retail or Sales Experience
  • Familiarity with WordPress or similar applications
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles
  • Knowledge of purchasing policies and practices for a public institution
  • Knowledge of USU software, policies, and procedures

Advertised Salary

$10-12 per hour based on experience


Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
