This position is full-time, with some evening and weekend hours required.
Fall 2021-Spring 2022 Academic Year required. One opening is available for this position.


The full-time Prevention Specialist will help implement and increase the impact of sexual misconduct (primarily, sexual assault, relationship violence, and sex-based stalking) prevention efforts at the USU Blanding campus. This position will strengthen USU’s sexual misconduct prevention efforts using a public health approach to promote the health and safety of USU Blanding campus students and employees.


The full-time Prevention Specialist position funding is only guaranteed for one year through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program. This position reports directly to the USU Blanding Campus’s Director of Students, with a dotted reporting line to the USU Office of Equity’s Senior Prevention Specialist.


This position is primarily expected to work in-person on the Blanding campus, with some remote work time available.


The Prevention Specialist (Program Coordinator I) will:

  • Directly supervise the Sexual Violence Prevention interns;
  • Help coordinate and support compliance with USU’s hard mandate for requiring all incoming students, transfer students, students returning from a leave of absence, and continuing students to complete sexual misconduct prevention training;
  • Support compliance with USU’s annual employee sexual misconduct reporting obligations training requirement;
  • Regularly facilitate Upstanding bystander intervention programs and sexual misconduct prevention programs;
  • Create and implement prevention training programs for sexual misconduct topics (such as about consent and healthy relationships) that are tailored to the needs and cultural backgrounds of USU Blanding students;
  • Coordinate the logistics for the USU Upstanding bystander intervention program;
  • Facilitate tracking of students, faculty, and staff who have received sexual misconduct prevention training;
  • Help solicit and coordinate the logistics for guest speakers about sexual misconduct topics (such as about Red Zone and consent, dating violence, alcohol and sexual violence overlap, and sexual assault);
  • Help coordinate tabling and other outreach events about sexual violence topics (such as for Red Zone, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Stalking Awareness Month, Dating Violence Awareness Month, Safe Spring Break, and Sexual Assault Awareness Month);
  • Collect and analyze program evaluation information (pre- and post-test data from participants, feedback from facilitators) and assist with program revisions to enhance Upstanding and other sexual misconduct prevention programs;
  • Build relationships with and make relevant referrals to community-based organizations, prevention agencies, and county coalitions;
  • Manage and schedule meetings with campus and/or community partners as needed;
  • Oversee updates and assist with the development and distribution of tailored educational and marketing materials related to bystander intervention, consent, healthy relationships, sexual misconduct prevention, and campus and community resources;
  • Assist with other duties and projects as requested.


  • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, or related field. Individuals who will soon be graduating with their bachelor’s degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience requirement: At least one year of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of population-based public health principles and social norms strategies for community health promotion.
  • Proven ability to manage projects or programs and deliver results in a timely manner.
  • Experience delivering presentations and outreach activities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Experience working with a diverse population of varying backgrounds, ages, races, nationalities, gender identities, sexual orientation, and ideologies, especially native and indigenous populations.
