Overview

The Department of Campus Recreation in the Division of Student Affairs at Utah State University seeks a positive, collaborative, and dynamic individual to join our team as our Coordinator of Esports Programs. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Healthy Lifestyle Programs and Community Engagement, the Coordinator of Esports Programs is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and daily operations of all aspects of the Utah State University Esports programs. Including, but not limited to, oversight of the development and growth of a future esports arena, intramural competition, competitive teams, open recreation, club management, and development and implementation of Esports Summer Camp. This individual will be a key team member of the Campus Recreation Department, which provides aquatic programs, club sports, fitness/wellness, intramurals, outdoor recreation, special events, extramurals, summer camp, and collaborative programs.

Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Collaborate with the competitive sports team to manage the overall competitive sports program including club sports teams, intramural programs, and summer camps.
  • Provide leadership and oversee the development and operation of the esports programs including club sports teams, management of future esports arena, arena open recreation, and development and implementation of esports camps.
  • In partnership with Coordinator of Competitive Sports, responsible for scheduling and coordination of all esports intramural leagues, tournaments, and extramural events.
  • Oversee and foster the growth of the esports club teams with 80+ athletes, 8 competitive teams, and 100+ community members.
  • Develop policies and procedures for the esports arena, esports intramural competition, and esports camps.
  • Compile, prepare and maintain records for esports including budget management, participation numbers, injuries, and incident reports.
  • Communicates with area high school esports clubs and coordinates esports workshops and esports summer camp programming to assist in the recruitment of future Aggies.
  • Collaborate with Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness and Registered Dietitian to ensure health and wellbeing of esports athletes.
  • Ensures program risk management and league compliance.
  • Develop program supervisor manuals and a comprehensive staff training program.
  • Become proficient in the use of Fusion, FusionIMs, WhentoWork, DoSportsEasy, Discord, and Connect2Concepts software as they relate to program administration and management.
  • Responsible for inventory, maintenance, and a repair and replacement plan of sports equipment.
  • Understand and represent the mission and vision of Utah State University Campus Recreation Department.
  • Work evenings and weekends when necessary, regarding esports club team and intramural esports events and esports socials.
  • Oversee the department's basic Information Technology needs related to computers, Fusion Software, audio/visual, etc.
  • Assist with the marketing and promotion of esports programs.

Personnel Management

  • Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of student staff.

Budget Management

  • Research, develop, monitor, and adhere to the esports program budgets.
  • Oversee program payroll, tracking, and approvals.

Research & Assessment

  • Evaluate all esports programs and services to determine overall effectiveness and satisfaction to decide on possible changes as deemed appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the esports and overall department research and assessment agenda to include the development of student and program learning outcomes.

Other

  • Prepare written communications such as monthly reports, annual reports, participation statistics, etc.
  • Actively participate on a variety of Campus Recreation, University, and national association committees as assigned/obtained.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably with a major in business management, computer science, sports management, recreation administration, or a related field plus two years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Minimum of two years experience managing and developing esports programs during which time the applicant has acquired and demonstrated the ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with lead industry games including but not limited to League of Legends, Overwatch, Rainbow 6 Siege, CSGO, Fortnite, Rocket League, Valiant, etc.

Demonstrate knowledge of the following:

  • Administration, personnel & organizational management, budgeting, computer hardware/software operation, principles of superior customer service, and effective marketing

Demonstrate ability to do the following:

  • Interpret and apply University, Aggie Recreation Center, Campus Recreation, and USU rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish programmatic goals, facilitate change, and implement innovative programs and services.
  • Oversee the work of others.

  • Work as a part of a team to reach set goals.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Work varying hours including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Two or more years of professional experience developing esports programs in a collegiate or community recreation setting (including Graduate Assistantship).
  • One (1) year of various communication experience (social media, marketing, advertising, etc.) and maintaining computer hardware.
  • Experience writing and receiving grants for esports equipment and development.
  • Standard Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED, and/or instructor certification.
  • Active involvement in NIRSA – Leaders in Collegiate Recreation.
