Overview

The Department of Journalism and Communication at Utah State university invites applications for  an academic year, nine-month, tenure-track position (Assistant Professor) or term appointment (Professional Practice Assistant Professor) in Social Media. We invite applications who are excited to teach Social Media beginning fall 2022. We welcome candidates with demonstrated successes in working with diverse populations. The start date for this position is August 1, 2022.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in social media, public relations, research and other courses in the department.
  • Conduct and publish scholarly research in topics related to social media and other areas of expertise.
  • Serve on various departmental committees as needed.
  • Advise and mentor students.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned PhD in Social Media, Mass Communication, Strategic Communications or closely related field by August 1, 2022 for Assistant Professor level (will accept ABD)
  • Masters degree required to qualify at the level of Professional Practice Assistant Professor
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and publish scholarly research
  • Demonstrated expertise in Social Media
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic social media content development and distribution
  • An understanding of social media use by organizations
  • Ability to teach Social Media courses in analytics, content development, and campaigns
  • Ability to teach communication research classes
  • Conversant in qualitative and quantitative research and how both are used in the media field, including journalism and strategic communication
  • Ability and willingness to mentor undergraduate students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to those with a Ph.D, in Social Media, Mass Communication, Strategic Communications or closely related discipline
  • Preference will be given to candidates that are bi-lingual
  • Experience in teaching social media analytics
  • Expertise in Social Media and the ability to teach other courses in the department,especially public relations courses
  • Interest and commitment to developing a funded-research program
  • Interest in assisting with the development and growth of the emphasis
  • Interest in developing interdisciplinary collaborations
