Information Technology at Utah State University is seeking a creative individual, with quality assurance, front end development, and UX/UI experience, to join a fun and dynamic team within IT tasked with reviewing websites, creating template-based layouts, and supporting website managers using the University's centrally supported content management system, Omni CMS.  The candidate will work as a collaborative team member or project lead as assigned. The ability to organize, plan, and manage projects from start to finish, create reports, and apply creative solutions is a must. Previous UX/UI experience is a plus.


  • Perform quality assurance testing (QA) for new web content and platform features prior to launch
  • Meet with clients to discuss website development and renovation projects, including evaluation of feature requirements and technical specifications, and advise on content layout best practices for UX/UI
  • Utilizing graphic design elements to develop effective UX/UI features to be used within the University CMS
  • Provide training and implementation support for website accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) as per University policy
  • Provide continuing support for existing websites
  • Help content editors understand Google analytics reports and how they can effectively apply the data to their website
  • Coach and teach student programmers best practices and website standards
  • Work closely with members of the Systems & Security Engineering team regarding website issues
  • Manage the website launch process in coordination with the Enterprise Systems & Security team
  • Maintain a positive, friendly, and cooperative attitude while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, deadline-driven environment
  • Assist with or lead varied development projects for the University
  • Be or become proficient in HTML, CSS, XSLT, Javascript
  • Adhere to IT core competencies (http://it.usu.edu/core-competencies/)
  • Other duties as assigned

The primary focus of this position is one of evaluating websites and testing CMS features developed by the Team for accessibility, usability, and template compliance. The current priority project for the Team is to move all websites onto the recently updated USU template (e.g. from Bootstrap 3 to Bootstrap 4). Once this project is completed, the anticipated primary responsibility for this position will be supporting the development of accessible features, training USU web staff, and working with entities across campus to improve usability of USU websites to meet the needs of their particular audience.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • For Programmer I:
    • Bachelor’s degree* in an IT-related field OR an equivalent** combination of education plus experience is required
  • For Programmer II:
    • Bachelor’s degree* plus 2 years of experience in an IT-related field OR an equivalent** combination of experience plus education is required
    • Holds appropriate certifications and/or demonstrates equivalent knowledge in area of expertise
  • For Programmer III:
    • Bachelor’s degree* plus 4 years of experience in an IT-related field OR an equivalent** combination of education plus experience is required
    • Holds appropriate certifications and/or demonstrates equivalent knowledge in area of expertise

*Bachelor's degree must be in an IT-related field from an accredited 4 year institution

**One year of education is equivalent to one year of experience for the combination of both education and experience

  • Proven experience analyzing, developing, testing, and maintaining web applications using:
    • UX/UI best practices
    • Web accessibility (WCAG 2.1) best practices
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to a non-technical audience
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Ability to work with limited supervision, as well as collaboratively
    • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
    • HTML
    • CSS


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in some or all of the following:
    • Content management system development
    • NN/g UX Certification or equivalent
    • Usability-testing
    • WCAG 2.1 AA compliance/accessibility best practices
    • Google Analytics, Data Studio, Tag Manager
    • Cross-platform browser compatibility and testing
    • HTML5
    • CSS3
    • Current versions of Bootstrap
    • JavaScript/jQuery
