USU's Student Health Services department is looking for a certified Medical Assistant who is a caring, detail oriented team player to schedule appointments, take patients back to exam room, take patients vitals, and other duties as assigned.


  • Interview students on the phone or in person to determine chief complaint.
  • Recognize emergencies or deviations from common ailments that might endanger a student/patient. Obtain and record Vital signs accurately. Perform other nursing duties, as directed by Admin Nurse.
  • Assist patients in preparation for examination or treatment.
  • Understand variations in procedures, and equipment used by individual providers.
  • Anticipate what will be used and make certain it is available.
  • Prepare equipment or other items for use during the examination, treatment, or education, as requested.
  • Assist patient with aftercare plans, dressings, and follow-up treatment.
  • Prepare exam room for next patient.
  • Keep medical records up to date and accurate.
  • Draw labs and perform clia waved tests.
  • Administer nebulizer treatments.
  • Assist with procedures, injections, and suture removal.
  • Accession of lab specimens.
  • Maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients and staff to facilitate exchange of information.
  • Participate in informal and formal educational situations at the health center.
  • Maintain a current fund of knowledge applicable to the practice of nursing in Student Health, including current standards of care, treatments and procedures applicable to a student population.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is 40 hours per week during Fall and Spring Semester and 30 hours per week during the Summer Semester due to reduced hours in the summer at the Student Health Center.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required MA certification or nursing license
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology
  • Ability to work with confidential information
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team, under close supervision, and follow instructions needed
  • Completion of on-the-job training required
  • Experience with Women's Health
  • Proficient in phlebotomy and interest in performing laboratory testing (CBC, UA, etc.)
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Student Health Service setting
