The Research Communications Team, a division within the Office of Research, is looking for a Webmaster to join their team.  The Office of Research provides excellent opportunities for professional growth and development, collaboration, and work-life balance.  The candidate will be responsible for twenty plus division, program, and special event sites.  Their responsibilities will encompass management of web strategy, platform, architecture, user interface, and content.  The candidate may manage one or more student employees on the team.  


  • Process/strategy management
    • Learns and implements the office vision and mission on the web.
    • Evaluates current websites, asks questions and recommends a strategic web plan.
    • Finds and creates long-term, sustainable processes managing web pages and content.
    • Coordinates with Central IT and University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) web teams as needed.
    • Performs other duties as needed and assigned.
  • CMS management
    • Implements website content management system.
    • Optimizes websites on CMS as needed.
    • Integrates and maintains other web-related systems as needed.
  • UI management
    • Implements improved design, layout, and functionality of websites.
    • Reviews, monitors and updates the navigation architecture to improve usability.
    • Develops code and styling to improve appearance and functionality.
    • Develops new pages and templates for special sites.
    • Conducts usability testing as time permits.
  • Content management
    • Proactively and consistently manages and edits existing site content.
    • Coordinates with division directors on a regular basis as main liaison to obtain and update content.
    • Provides suggestions of improvement to RCom staff and division content creators
    • Provides training for other content managers as needed.
    • Assists with multimedia and social media content development and optimization.
    • Monitors usage analytics and implements strategies to improve search engine results.


Required Skills/Experience:

  1. Two years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  2. Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and web best practices
  3. Strong experience with web editing and authoring tools, especially OU Campus.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Project management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. A thorough understanding of Bootstrap, CSS, accessibility norms, and development best practices.
  2. Experience developing and maintaining databases.
  3. Proficiency with Google analytics.
  4. Ability to create and analyze reports.
  5. Layout and design background, especially experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
  6. Multimedia experience, especially video editing and formatting.
  7. Experience working in an educational environment, especially higher ed.
  8. Experience working in a large organization and managing complex web requirements and multiple stakeholders.

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
