Assistant Copy Editor for the journal Human-Wildlife Interactions


  • Proofreading, revising and fact-checking information.
  • Ensures the written copy is free of errors before being printed or published, which includes correcting issues of English grammar and punctuation.
  • Requires careful attention to branding and editorial style issues to make sure the content aligns with the company's image or guidelines.
  • Ensuring articles, books, and other materials are free of errors, easy to read, and conform to the publication's style.
  • Tight or overlapping deadlines require multi-tasking and may require longer work hours during certain times of the year.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A passion for writing and editing
  • A sharp eye for textual and visual detail
  • A clear and responsive communication style
  • Ability to work well under pressure

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or related fields
  2. Familiarity with human-wildlife interactions
  3. Familiarity with scientific or scholarly publishing
  4. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite programs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Coursework, training, and experience in technical writing and editing
  2. Demonstrated experience with digital communications
  3. Familiarity with basic computer software programs
  4. Proofreading and editing skills
  5. Ability to effectively manage time and schedules
  6. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

Advertised Salary

$10-15 per hour, commensurate with experience


Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
