Overview

This full-time, one-year AmeriCorps VISTA service position is hosted by the Public and School Partnership (PSP) and is based with Wasatch Mountain Institute in Wasatch County, UT. The goal of this VISTA position is to develop the capacity of the Wasatch Mountain Institute (WMI) and to build the foundation for sustainable funding and programming. The VISTA member will support WMI staff in developing training for school programs and summer camp field trips; coordinating curriculum development and youth education opportunities; identify areas of support for instructors who lead small groups of students in curricular activities, large-group community development, and nature interpretation activities; and assisting in grant writing and fundraising efforts, under the direction of WMI CEO/grant writer, in order to ensure program sustainability.

 

AmeriCorps VISTA is a National Service program. All AmeriCorps VISTA positions are full-time for one year, as mandated by the Corporation for National and Community service. Successful completion of a one-year service term qualifies all VISTA members for either an education award of $6345 or a cash stipend of $1800 (direct deposit). The pay, a living stipend, is $1150 per month.

 

Anticipated start date is June 6, 2022, pending successful candidate placement in this position. Start date may be pushed back until successful candidate placement occurs.

 

Location: This AmeriCorps VISTA placement is based with Wasatch Mountain Institute, which is operates out of Wasatch County, UT. Possible combination of in-person and remote-based work, to be determined by the placement site supervisor.

 

Supervision: VISTA member will report directly to on-site Site Supervisor on a day-to-day basis. VISTA members will also receive guidance and intermittent assignments from VISTA Supervisors and VISTA Leaders representing the Public & School Partnership.

Training: VISTA service orientation will be provided by the AmeriCorps VISTA federal agency and the Public & School Partnership. Site-based training will be provided by placement-site personnel.

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Under direction of the CEO, assist in securing and maintaining grant funds for program sustainability.
  • Collaborate with WMI staff to pilot new fundraising projects and support existing projects that will increase community awareness and attract donations for Wasatch Mountain Institute programs.
  • Increase capacity of the organization by developing and coordinating instructor training, under direction of the Education Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and must hold U.S. citizenship or legal state residency status.
  • One-year, 40 hours/week commitment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with research and data management
  • Donor outreach and fundraising strategies
  • Community outreach, volunteer management, and resource generation experience
  • Independent worker yet collaborative team member

Funding Statement

The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
