Overview

The position will conceptualize, plan, produce, edit, deliver, and archive videos, photography, and audio content to support external outreach activities. The Multimedia Specialist reports to the Executive Director of the Research Communications Team in the Office of Research. This classification may train and guide student and/or volunteer staff.

Responsibilities

Responsibilites:

  • Create, edit, and post audio and video content to be used at outreach events, on websites, and in social media.
  • Conceptualize, establish, and conduct interviews to generate compelling narratives and accurate stories with accompanying visuals.
  • Utilize a full range of production techniques including sound recording, photography, videography, lighting, editing, effects, and equipment to create high quality multimedia content.
  • Strategize with event management activities for on-campus and external outreach activities.
  • Contribute to establishing strategy and conceptualization of events.
  • Contribute to logistics and publicity planning and implementation.
  • Manage and implement execution of photo shoots across campus or on location to meet current needs/demands. Edit and publish work as needed. Organize and manage assets for team usage.
  • Works to maintain the infrastructure and organization of both online and local storage.
  • Other tasks as needed that may include but not be limited to management of team members, graphic design, writing, or clerical duties. May work with writers, editors, graphic designers, webmaster, and university communicators to create wide range of content. Manage equipment; determines necessary upgrades as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR an equivalent combination of education plus experience.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of all phases of video, photographic, audio and multimedia production, programming, and editing from inception to completion.
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and/or other post-production software.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with and interview subjects.
  • Knowledge of digital and physical publishing, relevant equipment and software, and principles of design.
  • Ability to plan visual products and services that interpret subject matter content.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong social media experience.
  • Understanding of web development best practices.
  • Layout and design background, especially experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with event management publicity and logistical tasks.
  • Experience working in an educational environment, especially higher ed.
