Overview

The Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University is seeking applicants for a Research Technician. The successful candidate will assist in developing and maintaining a nationally recognized research program in nutritional genomics and growth biology of livestock species. The area of emphasis within this lab is further elucidating the molecular mechanisms responsible for growth, particularly of skeletal muscle, in industry relevant livestock species.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for

  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Inventory/ordering of laboratory supplies
  • Assisting in teaching graduate/undergraduate students laboratory techniques
  • Performing experiments in the laboratory

An example of some of the laboratory techniques performed in this lab are; cell culture of primary cells, cell proliferation assays, protein synthesis assays, mRNA extraction and downstream expression using qRT-PCR, protein extraction and quantification utilizing western blot analyses, and enzymatic assays. Additionally, the successful candidate may also be involved in some more applied animal research trials which may involve daily care of the animals on trial and collection of samples from these animals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience or an associate degree/vocational training in an animal science, biology, nutrition field is required.
  • Experience in performing the afore mentioned laboratory techniques and general knowledge of sterile technique would be desired, although not necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A B.S. in a field such as animal science, biology, nutrition or any other related field.
