Overview

The 4-H Afterschool Assistant Site Coordinator- Elementary in Iron County will be responsible for assisting the Site Coordinator to support youth and volunteer mentors enrolled in the program. Youth will be in grades 4-5.

Responsibilities

In cooperation with the Site Coordinator, assist in the following:

  1. Recruit, screen, train, and support peer and young adult volunteers working with youth in the YFP program.
  2. Recruit, screen, manage, and orientate youth to participate in the program.
  3. Work with school officials to obtain parental consent for youth participation.
  4. Match volunteers to youth (and families) with assistance from County Extension Agent and other resource persons associated with YFP.
  5. Coordinate academic support and 4-H skill development among youth participants.
  6. Manage all data collection related to survey distribution and collection.
  7. Assist Site Coordinator to submit monthly/quarterly reports including tracking dosage data.
  8. Communicate regularly with the FCS County Agent and Program Coordinator as to the progress and needs of the program.
  9. Provide supervision to volunteers and assist them with working with the youth and their families.
  10. Serve as an advocate for the youth and their families in the program.
  11. Serve as an ambassador for the program in the community.
  12. Schedule regular recruiting activities/booths for both youth and volunteers to participate in the program.
  13. Prepare and teach life skills and 4-H components of program with assistance from other program staff and members of the community.
  14. Work closely with USU County Extension FCS and 4-H faculty/staff, School personnel, volunteers, youth, and their families.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills: Word, Excel and Internet
  • experience working and/or desire to work with youth at risk and their families
  • Access to personal transportation to perform essential job functions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in education-related field, psychology or criminal justice;
  • Experience working with youth and/or families;
  • Prior experience working with afterschool programs;
  • Evidence of teamwork capabilities;
  • 4-H experience,
  • Spanish language skills.
