Overview

The System Administrator I or II will be working in a team environment, being responsible for the management, security, maintenance, monitoring, operation, and upgrading of Facilities computer network, as well as, providing ongoing technical and troubleshooting support for department staff.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, develop, and recommend computer software for the computers in the Facilities department.
  • Evaluate, repair, recommend, and install computer hardware.
  • Observe and analyze network, determine and correct problems, install upgrades to the system, and investigate available resources.
  • Assist, train, and advise all Facilities computer users when questions arise.
  • Develop and maintain programs to interface with the University systems.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current computer advancement and new technology.
  • Manage multiple linked databases to include security, data integrity, disaster recovery, and development and implementation of bulk data import/export procedures.
  • Manage multiple servers, workstations, ensuring proper integration of these components with existing University computer systems.
  • Plan and implements system security policy, to include firewalls, host and client access, file permissions, and user accounts.
  • Design and develop advanced methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying data for input and/or retrieval.
  • Design and program specific applications in response to department/client needs.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, install, configure, and troubleshoot all hardware, peripherals, and equipment necessary to meet integrated systems objectives.
  • Troubleshoot network, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational problems.
  • Develop and implement various training and instruction programs for users on the use of operating systems, networking, applications, and databases.
  • Setup and maintain various mobile devices to work with our integrated work order management system (Android and iOS).
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered at the Systems Administrator I Level:

  • 4 years of work experience in desktop and server systems, or Associate's degree in Business Information Systems or related field plus 2 years of related work experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems or related field.

To be considered at the Systems Administrator II Level:

  • 6 years of work experience in desktop and server systems, or an Associate's degree in Business Information Systems or related field plus 4 years of related work experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems or related field plus 2 years of related work experience, or a Master's degree in BIS or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Active Directory Services (permissions, groups, GPO policies, etc.)
  • Experience using Sql Server database software (2016-2019).
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management software (AIM).
  • Experience using report writing software (Power BI, Birt, Hyperion, Argos, IQ, etc.)
  • Experience writing SQL scripts.
  • Experience installing, configuring, updating, and maintaining Windows 10 OS
  • Knowledge of Windows 2016-2019 environment.
  • Experience with Server Virtualization (VMware ESXi, VMware VCenter, Hyper-V, etc.)
  • Experience setting up and maintaining IIS and Apache Web Servers.
  • Experience with Backup Exec and Veeam backup solutions.
  • Knowledge of competency in the use of a variety of programming languages (Java, JavaScript, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of data security and disaster recovery systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of range of network systems, protocols, and applications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of LAN administration in a secure environment.
  • Knowledge of systems security protocol, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to determine computer problems and to coordinate hardware and/or software solutions.
  • Ability to plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot system software.
