Overview

Student Success Coordinator is a year round, full-time position that serves as the lead for all USU-Tooele student success initiatives. The successful candidate will be able to develop a strong vision, strategic plan and coordination to successfully address persistence and retention goals in alignment with Statewide Campus initiatives, research, and best practices.

This position requires excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as it has extensive interaction with students and other school/university staff. The candidate must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively with others or as part of a team, and build good rapport with a variety of constituents. The successful candidate must be flexible, patient and creative along with having a service-oriented attitude. The successful candidate must commit to integrity; and to perform duties with diligence in accordance with professional standards and enforce University policies and procedures; use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.

This position may work evenings and weekends to aid in delivery of services that best meet the needs of and current students and campus partners.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the primary support for student success initiatives on USU-Tooele campus. Targeted predominantly for undergraduate students.
  2. Create and maintain dynamic partnerships with students as a point-person on the Tooele campus regardless of the student’s academic program. 
  3. Assist students in identifying resources and provide appropriate referrals to student services and academic advising.
  4. Participate in Statewide and campus persistence and retention efforts under the direction of the Director of Students.
  5. Develop and support First Year Experience programming for USU-Tooele campus (programs such as Orientation, mentoring opportunities, seminars/classes, student leadership programs, etc.).
  6. Monitor student progress by way of early alerts; provide guidance and mentorship related to student’s personal success plan.
  7. Communicate effectively, proactively and regularly with students using telephone, email, and virtual communication tools.
  8. Serve on Statewide Campus system/university committees as appropriate;
  9. Other duties as assigned.
  10. Work occasional evening and weekends.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree plus two years of related work experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Experience advising and mentoring students.
  • Experience cultivating mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Ability to work with underserved and diverse populations.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a related field.
  • 2 years full-time professional experience at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrated written communication experience such as reports, proposals, presentation content, materials, etc.
  • Highly developed organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and manage complex relationships.
  • Demonstrated critical and strategic thinking skills, flexibility, and ability to work through challenges as they arise.
  • Experience managing large-scale programs.
  • Familiarity with Student Development Theory.
  • Familiarity with Banner, Inspire/Civatas and other university software systems.
  • Reflecting campus and institutional values, candidates are expected to have the ability to advance the commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong work ethic and time management.
  • LGBTQA+ Ally, inclusive and diversity training. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  1. Knowledge of research and information gathering methods and procedures.
  2. If applicable, knowledge of grant development, implementation, budgeting, fiscal control, and reporting.
  3. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  4. Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  5. Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  6. Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  7. Skilled at records maintenance.
  8. Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.
  9. Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
  10. Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
  11. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  12. Program specific knowledge, skills, and abilities as described in recruitment notice.
  13. Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.

Employees typically work in an office environment and are protected from weather conditions or contaminants, but not necessarily occasional temperature changes. However, in certain instances employees may work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions. Employees could be exposed to hazardous chemicals.  Employees nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).  Bending and stooping is occasionally required.
