The Marketer for the School of Graduate Studies will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies for the School of Graduate Studies. These will include:

  • Creating and executing marketing plans, campaigns and projects for the School of Graduate Studies, with a focus on recruiting new graduate students and communicating with current students;
  • Writing marketing copy for the School of Graduate Studies for a wide variety of outlets.
  • Working with marketers and other personnel in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.

The Marketer will also be responsible for ongoing communication between the School of Graduate Studies and current graduate students, faculty mentors, and Graduate Program Coordinators.  The Marketer will oversee a number of part-time student employees.


  1. Creates and executes marketing strategies, plans, campaigns, and projects.
  2. Designs plans to assist in the goal of increasing applications, enrollments, and retention of graduate students at USU (e.g. web content, recruitment weekend visit, email workflows, etc.).
  3. Writes marketing copy for the School of Graduate Studies for a wide range of formats and media, including social media, print, websites, and email.
  4. Writes School of Graduate Studies’ communications, including email and texts, with graduate students, faculty mentors of graduate students, Graduate Program Coordinators, and administrators.
  5. Works with appropriate USU personnel to maintain and continually update the School of Graduate Studies web pages.
  6. Works with UMAC to respond to requests for information from the media and public; prepares and presents information to internal and external sources distributes promotional materials, including flyers, brochures and press kits;.
  7. Plans or assists with planning and coordinating special events such as the Weekend Visits program and other recruiting events, open houses, social events, and job fairs.
  8. Conducts, or assists in conducting, the development and implementation of graduate student related surveys, and in the analysis and presentation of results from those surveys.
  9. Maintains database records and files pertaining to graduate student data.
  10. Designs and creates dashboards and reports of applications, enrollments, completion and other trends.
  11. Plans and implements programming and communication for new graduate student orientation.
  12. Responsible for creating School of Graduate Studies annual report.
  13. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of office-related experience; OR an Associate’s degree plus two years of experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in data analysis and assessment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field.
  • Experience in any of the following:
    • Survey research (Qualtrics)
    • Mass emailing (MailChimp)
    • Social media management (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)
    • Website content management (WordPress, OU Campus)
    • Data analysis and reporting (Excel and Tableau)
    • Event management
    • Desktop publishing (Adobe InDesign) 
    • Work in a university environment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret policy fairly and consistently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a busy office environment and to be a team player.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Basic knowledge of writing for search engine optimization (SEO) and social media.
  • Collaborative and strategic approach to job responsibilities.  
  • Knowledge of marketing media.
  • Ability to gather data, analyze information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate media activities and special events.
  • Ability to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources.
  • Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, including understanding and defining workflows for multi-step processes.

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
