Overview

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Science at Utah State University (USU) seeks an Assistant Professor at the USU Salt Lake Campus, based in Salt Lake City, UT.  This is a 9-month academic-year, tenure-track, full-time benefited position beginning August 2023.  We are seeking applicants with teaching and research expertise in health education and promotion with a focus on public health and healthcare. Expectations for this position include a 70% role assignment in teaching, 25% research and a 5% role assignment in service.  With respect to service, the incumbent is expected to engage with the USU Salt Lake Campus (https://statewide.usu.edu/saltlake/) community as well as the surrounding communities that the campus serves. This position is not eligible for remote work. Review of applicants will begin October 15, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. This position is eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Teach three courses per semester (e.g., Health Care Systems, Health Services Administration, Epidemiology) in hybrid, broadcast and online formats.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Conduct and publish research in area of expertise.
  • Pursue external funding for scholarly activities.
  • Provide service to the department, university, community, state, and scholarly discipline as appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate by August 1, 2023 in public health, community health, health promotion, health administration, health education or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of the ability to be an excellent teacher and mentor.
  • Evidence of the ability to develop and maintain a robust research program that would engage students as well as yield publications and other scholarly outputs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration with peers and constituents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous university teaching experience with positive evaluations.
  • A consistent and impactful publication record.
  • Post-doctoral research experience.
  • Capacity to foster collaborative activity within the department and across the university.

The KHS Department provides a dynamic, high quality, program of education and training in Kinesiology and Health Science. Students at the Salt Lake campus often pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education and Promotion and the department offers a fully online Master of Public Health graduate program.
