The Department of Aviation and Technical Education in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Utah State University (USU) offers a Business Consultant position working as the Small Business Development and Custom Fit Director. The Price Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Custom Fit (CF) Regional Director oversees all of the administrative and operational activities of the Price SBDC and CF programs in Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan Counties in Southeastern Utah.


  • This successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing the State SBDC & CF strategic direction.
  • The SBDC/CF Director provides individual management consulting to local entrepreneurs including business planning, financing, managerial accounting, financial planning, marketing plan development, and other activities required to provide support to client businesses.
  • The SBDC Director also manages all employees of the Center and ensures the quality of all of its consulting services.
  • In addition, the Director oversees all educational workshops and other events offered by the Center and its partners that provide management training to small business owners in the area.
  • The SBDC Director works closely with the State SBDC director and with other regional SBDC directors from around the State and coordinates relevant activities internally within Utah State University’s colleges and departments.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field plus two years of relevant work experience; or a master’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Experience as a management consultant using managerial accounting and financial analysis
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, social media, and web-based marketing programs
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to teach college-level business management courses

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Business-related Master's degree, MBA Basic web design skills
  • SBDC certified councilor
  • Experience as a small business owner including familiarity with small business loan programs
