Overview

The Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences at Utah State University is seeking to fill a full-time (9 month) tenure-track Assistant Professor position in our Food Science program.  The role for this position is 50% research, 45% teaching, and 5% Service.  Applicants must have a PhD in Food Science or related area. Candidates will be expected to establish an extramurally funded and nationally recognized program of research that complements or expands existing departmental research in the area of Food Science.

 

The department is interested in candidates with experience and interest in the sustainability of post-production food systems including processing, packaging, safety, distribution, energy use and waste handling with interest in working with interdisciplinary teams to identify and implement science-driven solutions to problems related to food.

 

The proposed start date is August 1, 2023

Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities will include:

  • Development of a lower division introduction to Food Science course
  • Development of a mid- to upper-level undergraduate course in sustainable food systems as an elective for various degree programs including the department’s IFT-approved Food Science bachelor’s degree, the department’s Food Science minor, and other related degree programs in sustainable systems across the college and university

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Food Science or related field.
  • Evidence of commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Ability to communicate at a technical and non-technical level, and with university faculty, staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability in writing and publishing scientific papers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level.
  • Demonstrated record of funding from competitive federal and industry sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor graduate students to degree completions.
  • Demonstrated experience in face-to-face and online teaching.
  • Demonstrated expertise working in the area of sustainable food systems.
