Overview

The SBDC Business Consultant & Outreach (Business Consultant, Senior) works directly with the SPARC Director/SBDC Regional Director to create an outreach plan to impact the businesses using programs under the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Industry Certifications and Workforce Skills Training, Custom Fit, STIT, and Manufacturing Extension Service in Grand County, and the Four Corners Region.  This position is budgeted for three years, but may be longer contingent upon funding.

 

Estimated start date is January 1, 2023.

Responsibilities

The SBDC Business Consultant & Outreach supports business development, business plans, marketing, teaches Industry Certification and Workforce Skills Training to business and the workforce and brings awareness of SBDC services. Supervises interns as needed. This position will provide business consulting services, data tracking, and reporting to support Grand County and the Four Corners Region businesses.

 

This position will:

    • Digitize Client note
    • Track consulting hours
    • Track training attendance
  • Custom Fit
    • Business Outreach
    • Training Plan Creation with businesses
    • Acceptance of Anticipated Training forms and Business Profiles
    • Enter information in various databases.
    • Create training agreements and obtain signatures.
    • Gather all documentation to complete the file and reimbursement 
    • Complete reimbursement in EZbuy.
    • Monthly tracking of information for proper reporting and reconciling reports.
  • STIT
    • Complete Paperwork
    • Complete OCE with proof of completion of the class
    • Monthly tracking information for proper reporting and reconciling reports.
  • Industry Certification and Workforce Skills Training 
    • Work with the Director to create programming to match the needs of Grand County.
    • Coordinate and teach at least one (1) class a week on average based on the training needs of the community
    • Market programming In Grand County
    • Complete all requirements to ensure students can be entered into Banner, or other tracking systems that match the program.
  • Community Outreach
    • Work with the Regional Director to create a plan for business outreach throughout Grand County.
    • Data collection to inform the development of programs and curriculum creation.
    • Create a curriculum for Non-credit training to fill the needs of the area.
    • Complete the approval process for Industry Certification for all created training.
    • Communicate resources, training, and consulting with businesses owners that would help build and expand their businesses
    • Build an ongoing relationship with business owners to build trust in programming and consulting

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with direct support to regional training, as needed.
  • Train and supervise interns and part-time staff as needed.  
  • Collaborate with the campus community, departments, area agencies, and county economic development to execute the position's responsibilities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Curriculum development.
  • Grant writing for federal, state, and private grants that coordinate with the area, needs, and partnerships.
  • Attend SPARC Advisory Board meetings to gather ongoing information about the region that could affect SPARC or businesses in Grand County. 
  • Attend Grand County CED Board meetings to observe the needs of the area.
  • Participate in monthly meeting coordination with Grand County Economic Development and SBDC Regional Director.
  • Turn in quarterly reports to Director, for shareholders, on or before the due date to ensure SPARC programming reports are turned in to USU and Grand County Shareholders on time.
  • Attend Utah SBDC Network Director's meeting three times a year.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An associate degree plus five years of related work experience, OR a bachelor's degree in a related field plus three years of experience, OR an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Attention to detail, deadlines, and ability to complete projects from start to finish.
  • Microsoft Office 365 & Google Suites preferent
  • Skilled at records maintenance.
  • Ability to solve problems and recognize patterns
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clerical/Secretarial: Basic
    • Type 35 wpm (preferred but not required)
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Experience in customer service or certification (preferred but not required)
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Best Practices for Business Operations
