Overview

The primary duty of this position is to support the Institute for Disability Research, Policy and Practice - Research and Training Division to develop and conduct training for disability adult service providers. This position reports to the Research and Training Division Director and has no supervisory responsibilities. This position is telework eligible in the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts needs analysis to inform the development of synchronous and synchronous training.
  • Designs and delivers educational programs to meet a wide range of adult service provider needs. May also assist with the design and delivery of training programs for managers and administrative leaders in adult service programs.
  • Responds to new project requests for training and development. Works with supervisor to prioritize and assign work.
  • Conducts needs assessment with adult service providers, identifies goals and creates customized training curricula.
  • Develops and designs highly engaging and interactive learning solutions and training programs for disability adult service providers (webinar, in-person, eLearning, technical assistances.).
  • Develops formal lesson plans, content outlines, handouts and evaluation tools; revises/customizes training programs to meet the needs of the organization and the participants.
  • Develops and designs training scripts, handouts, including workbooks, guides and other materials needed.
  • Provides ongoing technical assistance to trainees.
  • Develops and conducts "train the trainer" sessions for subject matter expert instructors.
  • Performs tasks such as scheduling classes, preparing materials, creating communication and marketing plans, supporting on-site and off-site offerings, preparing reports, monitoring costs, and entering development-related information into the Institutional Learning System (ILS-LMS).
  • Work as part of a larger team emphasizing meaningful access to education and community settings for adults with disabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Development, Family Studies, Special Education, Public Health, Sociology, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of work experience in adult service programs for individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of instructional design methods and techniques for curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of online learning platforms.
  • Competent in the use of computer programs including Excel, Microsoft Office and other applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people. 
  • Able to work within a team-based environment.
  • Experienced in managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines.  Able to organize work responsibilities and self-assess personal performance against target objectives.
  • Proactive in resolving issues, setting up processes, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality and work without close supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Psychology, Human Development, Family Studies, Special Education, Public Health, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Home and Community Based Services Waivers.
  • Experience with technical writing.

Funding Statement

The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
