Overview

The Department of Campus Recreation within the Division of Student Affairs at Utah State University seeks a positive, collaborative, and dynamic individual to join our team as our Coordinator of Marketing (Marketer II). Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Adventure Programs and Marketing, the Coordinator of Marketing will develop and manage all marketing and communication activities designed to effectively promote the programs and services of the department. The incumbent will also manage the department's technology resources including computer operations, software, websites, and social media platforms as they pertain to marketing. This individual will be a key team member of the Campus Recreation Department, which provides aquatic programs, club sports, fitness/wellness, intramurals, outdoor recreation, special events, extramurals, and collaborative programs.

Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Develop and manage marketing and communication strategy (print & digital) for all programs and services.
  • Design, create, and distribute marketing and communication materials designed to meet the marketing and communication objectives of the department.
  • Maintain familiarity with all departmental programs and services and update all communication resources accordingly.
  • Develop, execute, and monitor social media strategy.
  • Update the department's website. Monitor information to assure the website is accurate, timely, and in compliance with the needs and interests of various
    audiences seeking information.
  • Maximize the functionality of all marketing efforts including news, calendar updates, pictures, and other communication features of various software.
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing programs and projects implemented by the department.
  • Collaborate with appropriate departments to manage various technology (TVs and Campus Recreation Radio) within the facility.
  • Maintain staff manuals, training manuals, and a comprehensive staff training program, and ensure the department visual identity guide is followed.
  • Work evenings and weekends when necessary, regarding special events and photoshoots.

Personnel Management

  • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and supervise the 4-6 student creative team, including graphic designers, social media team, and photographer/videographer
  • Administer employee-related disciplinary action when necessary.

Budget Management

  • Research, propose, develop, monitor, and adhere to the department marketing and technology budgets.
  • Oversee program student payroll, tracking, and approvals.

Research & Assessment

  • Evaluate customer satisfaction to determine overall effectiveness and satisfaction to recommend possible changes as deemed appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the department research and assessment agenda to include the development of student and program learning outcomes.
  • Prepare written communications such as monthly reports, annual reports, participation statistics, etc.

Other

  • This position will be asked to flex time to work some nights and weekends for Campus Recreation functions and special events.
  • Actively participate in a variety of Aggie Recreation Center, Campus Recreation, and University committees as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university preferably with a major in marketing, communications, sports management, recreation administration, business administration, or a related field plus two years of relevant, professional-level experience (including Graduate Assistantship) managing and developing marketing initiatives at a high level; OR an equivalent combination of education plus experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Suite, Canvas, graphic design, website design, and computer operation.
  • Work varying hours including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience. (2-year Graduate Assistantship is equivalent to one year of professional experience)
  • Previous management experience in college/university or other community/private recreational programs during which time the applicant has acquired and demonstrated the ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Active involvement in NIRSA – Leaders in Collegiate Recreation

The Department of Campus Recreation at Utah State University is housed in the Division of Student Affairs and is one of the most dynamic growing departments on campus. Home to 18 professional staff members and four graduate assistants, Campus Recreation strives to serve the students with top-notch programs and services. A state-of-the-art facility opened in November 2015 and included three basketball courts, three levels of cardio and weight training, a climbing and bouldering wall, two sand volleyball courts, and two outdoor basketball courts. The Aggie Legacy Field is 154,000 square feet of synthetic playable surface including two flag football fields, two softball fields, a soccer field, a rugby pitch, a lacrosse field, and ultimate frisbee. Campus Recreation also manages the HPER Building and Fieldhouse which includes six racquetball courts, five basketball courts, two pools, weight training, and a cardio loft.
