Overview

Career opportunity for a knowledgeable financial professional to support the business operations of the School of Teacher Education and Leadership. Successful incumbent will have the ability to have a positive impact on faculty, staff, and students by overseeing a small, professional business services team and supporting the finances, personnel administration, contract/grants of this dynamic academic unit.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the identification, development, implementation, and maintenance of the TEAL’s financial policies and procedures:

  • Oversees, manages, and reports on financial activities, transactions, and policies/procedures.
  • Performs or oversees functions such as budget preparation, budget reconciliation, data management, and fiscal information support.
  • Reconciles and reviews financial statements to ensure accuracy in a timely manner. 

Responsible for the development, management, and control of contract, grant or service agency funding according to USU and Federal and State regulations and Agency expectations:

  • Supports faculty and staff in administering proposals to ensure compliance with federal, state, and University policies.
  • Manages or oversees budgets of awarded grants
  • Develops accurate reports of activity to granting agencies in coordination with PI.

 Responsible for development and leadership of business services team supporting TEAL:

  • Develops and maintains current process and procedure documentation, tools, training, and support mechanisms for financial/business operation within the department.
  • Instructs and assigns work to others both within a direct reporting structure and an indirect reporting structure.

 Actively and positively engages in procedural improvements and documentation:

  • Positively engages in department, college or university teams as requested to improve processes, implementation of new policies or systems, or researching issues/opportunities
  • Suggests and develops new concepts and approaches to issues. As approved, works to positively implement the changes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven years of directly-related financial or research administration work experience with increasing responsibilities or Bachelor’s degree in a business field plus three years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in research administration
  • Experience in a higher education academic department.
  • Experience in supervising, training, and leading staff by fostering an inclusive and team-oriented environment.
  • Expert knowledge of financial principles, practices, concepts, and analysis of data in financial reports.
  • Knowledge of Excel to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections.
  • Working knowledge of USU’s Banner, ServiceNow, Argos and/or Clover systems.
  • Working knowledge of USU’s policies and procedures pertaining to:
    • Purchasing
    • Operations
    • Human Resources

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Knowledge of finance enterprise systems and software.
  • Knowledge of management reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of current business issues and trends.

  • Skilled in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Ability to operate Windows and use/develop Excel formulas correctly and independently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to develop professional materials with proper grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment while providing high quality customer service to a diverse population.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently with little or no supervision, as well as collaboratively and dynamically in team-based settings.
  • Ability to deal discretely with highly confidential and sensitive information showing good judgement and decision-making skills.
