Overview

The Director of Industry Relations (Program Coordinator III) works directly with the Dean of the College of Engineering as the college’s primary interface with our 80+ industry partners across all five academic departments and research centers. This person works with industry partners to secure senior design projects and funding, funded research, Industry Advisory Board coordination, agreement negotiations, scholarships, and interactions with college programs and courses.  Some travel within Utah will be required, primarily to Hill Air Force Base and Salt Lake City.  

Responsibilities

  • Identifies new industry partners.
  • Coordinates interactions with all current industry partners.
  • Identifies and secures new senior design projects and manages all project business arrangements.
  • Identifies and secures new industry sponsored funded research.
  • Coordinates industry partner involvement with college programs including Launch Your Engineering Career, in-class presentations, information sessions, college and department Industry Advisory Board meetings, college and department presentations at industry locations, industry tours, and industry student recruiting.
  • Assists the college development group in identifying and securing private and corporate donations.
  • Develops and manages student clubs and teams funding process and department coordination.
  • Negotiates agreements with industry partners.
  • Develops and coordinates the annual Senior Design Night event showcasing the student’s capstone projects.
  • Assists with proposal development when industry partners are involved.
  • Supports the dean, associate deans, and department heads with other industry related activities as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or engineering plus two years of relevant industry experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • An ability to communicate seamlessly with industry executives and management, and college leadership and faculty.
  • Ability to understand the faculty needs as they relate to industry and translate those needs into actionable goals.
  • Ability to identify industry needs related to hiring, and help to implement college projects to support those needs.
  • Ability to compose clear and responsive emails, prepare and make effective presentations, and other written communications.
  • Knowledge of research and information gathering methods and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and records maintenance.
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple concurrent tasks.
