Overview

Utah State University seeks a Surgical Technology Lecturer for the Blanding Campus. This is a full-time non-tenure track academic position.  Teaching appointment is 95% teaching and 5% service. Estimated Start is August 1, 2023.

Responsibilities

  • Full-time, academic year professional teaching position on the Blanding campus and collaborating with Health Professions faculty at Moab and USU Eastern campuses.
  • The primary responsibility will be to teach surgical technology courses.
  • Educator delivers class and/or clinical instructions according to an approved curriculum using accepted and effective teaching methods.
  • Educator will be expected to develop daily lesson plans, provide academic advising, participate in department training, attend meetings, and engage in campus and community service.
  • Teach both theoretical and practical learning experiences.
  • Direct, guide and evaluate student performance in a laboratory setting.
  • The typical teaching load is four courses each semester (fall and spring).
  • Travel to other Health Profession classroom sites in Southeast Utah

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a credential in the surgical technology field from a nationally recognized and accredited credentialing agency (Supervisors of a surgical technology program hired after July 1, 2010, hold the
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential);
  • Possess a minimum of three (3) years of operating room experience in the scrub role within the last five (5) years or three (3) years teaching in the field of surgical technology prior to employment;
  • Must meet all regulatory and accreditation qualifications;
  • Computer proficiency including knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
  • Current CPR card.
  • Access to reliable transportation to perform essential job functions.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences or related health sciences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated training in educational methods, testing and evaluation with evidence strength in instructional methodology, delivery, and pedagogical techniques.
  • Prior teaching experience is especially in a technology-augmented classroom.
