Overview

The Student Involvement & Leadership Center (SILC) at Utah State University is seeking applicants for a Program Coordinator II position. This position will coordinate, support and advise the Utah State University Student Association (USUSA) student officers (Chief of Staff, Executive Vice President, Student Advocate Vice President, Statewide Campuses Executive Council, and each of their committees as well as volunteers) in fulfilling the objectives and goals as outlined in their individual officer position descriptions. Support and advise the Statewide Campuses, VP's and representatives. Coordinate the day-to-day activities of these officers including monitoring program budget revenues and expenses to ensure all USU policies are followed and student fee use transparency is maintained. Oversee any events during these officers' events, and making sure they are safe and adhere to applicable Utah State University (USU) policies.

Responsibilities

1. Advise USUSA Student Officers (Logan & Statewide) to comply with all policies and procedures set forth by their position descriptions and the university.

  • Attend Executive Leadership Board meetings, and Statewide Campuses Executive Council meetings to ensure continuous and current communication between advisor and those students advised.
  • Hold weekly meetings with each officer, keeping current on new issues, policies, budget review, events and other student involvement activates and/or concerns.
  • Oversee each USUSA Officer budgets
  • Initiate an understanding of mutual expectations between advisor and students, which is continually evaluated and modified.
  • Exhibit willingness to assist advisees in fulfilling their respective office goals by establishing an open, working relationship.
  • Become familiar with all campus auxiliary services, community groups and businesses that students may wish to utilize.
  • Facilitate trainings, seminars, meetings and special projects as needed or assigned.
  • Serve as a principal liaison between student leaders, administrators and external constituencies
  • Oversee all events these officer's plan. Exercise discretion and judgement on the safety and execution of the event. Contact Risk Management and police with any safety issues.
  • Co-advise the USUSA Elections including annual bylaw review and revisions.

2. Perform responsibilities for and serve on committees as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Involvement and Leadership Center (SILC), the Director of Involvement and Director of Leadership within the SILC, as well as and the Vice President and the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. Help the SILC staff with the following:

  • Student Government Training (including Canvas course trainings) both Logan & Statewide
  • Aggie Blue Leadership Conference (Fall) – develop course curriculum, grading, etc.
  • Day on the Quad
  • Orientation
  • SILC Recruitment-Open Houses
  • UPSIL & ULA conference
  • USUSA Awards Banquet
  • Aggie Ice Cream Day
  • Higher Ed Day
  • Oversee Fee Boards (Logan and Statewide) including minutes and website

3. Help with the Departments larger events (Day on the Quad, HOWL, Mardi Gras and End of the Year Bash).

 

4. Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant experience; or a master's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including both oral and written communications.
  • Strong organization skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines

Preferred Qualifications or Experience:

  • Experience working within higher education, specifically Student Affairs.
  • Prior student advising experience.
  • Event planning and coordination experience, ideally within an educational environment.
  • Prior experience overseeing budgets and other fiscal responsibilities.
  • Experience with assessment - analyzing information and evaluating results.

Within the scope and complexity of this position's responsibilities, you will be expected to possess and demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, particularly in a team setting.
  • Ability to solve problems and act independently coordinating events, projects and initiatives.
