Overview

This position will work as part of Utah State University Extension's Rural Online Initiative (ROI) program leadership team. The focus of this position will be to provide high-level e-commerce business consulting services and support to rural small businesses and agricultural producers all throughout Utah in establishing their online presence. This position will work directly with clients to develop e-commerce strategies and implement best practices to help them successfully sell their products or services online. This position will report to the ROI Program Director, and will work as assigned from an approved USU Extension Office. This position is not telework-eligible.

 

The funding is for 3-years, positions will end June 30, 2026 unless we are successful receiving ongoing funding.

Responsibilities

Consulting (70%)

  • Develop and deliver training on e-commerce and digital marketing topics for rural small businesses and agricultural producers.
  • Develop and implement e-commerce strategies, policies, and procedures for clients that align with their goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify and solve operational and technical issues.
  • Provide training and support clients on how to optimize their online stores and increase sales revenue.
  • Provide one-on-one e-commerce consulting services to clients.
  • Provide guidance on e-commerce platforms, such as Shopify, Magento, or WooCommerce, and help clients set up and manage their online stores.

Community Relations (20%)

  • Build and maintain relationships with the rural small business community, including business owners, agricultural producers, stakeholders, and industry experts to promote the success of the ROI program.
  • Develop marketing and promotional strategies to raise awareness of the program's e-commerce businesses and drive traffic to their online stores.
  • Organize events and workshops to educate, engage, and recruit community members on e-commerce trends and best practices.

Data Analysis (10%)

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data on e-commerce performance metrics, such as website traffic, conversion rates, and revenue.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities and threats for clients' online businesses.
  • Identify trends and patterns in the data to inform strategic decision-making for small rural businesses.
  • Create reports and presentations to communicate insights and recommendations to the rural small businesses and program leadership.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a business-related field (i.e., administration, marketing, e-commerce, strategic management, etc.), OR a bachelor's degree in a business field plus two years of experience working in e-commerce, digital marketing, or business consulting, OR an equivalent combination of education or experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field plus two years of experience working in e-commerce, digital marketing, or business consulting.
  • Experience in developing and implementing e-commerce strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience working in e-commerce, digital marketing, or business consulting in a university or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with e-commerce platforms, such as Shopify, Magento, or WooCommerce.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including business owners, industry experts, and program leadership.
