Overview

USU Eastern Cosmetology department has multiple career opportunities available for licensed Nail Technology and Cosmetology Instructors. The candidates will need to have industry experience in the profession and a passion for sharing knowledge, as well as a desire for personal growth and development in the industry. These are Part-time, non-benefited (Adjunct) positions that play an important role in the USU Eastern Cosmetology Team. The candidates will need to possess the ability to positively impact students in both the classroom and salon setting while supporting a team environment. Candidates need to possess basic computer skills, including the ability to use digital platforms like email, word processors, spreadsheets, and search engines. In addition, they will need to be willing to learn (through on-the-job training) the Cengage digital teaching and grading platforms. This will be done in conjunction with their teaching, supervising, and mentoring responsibilities. The Cosmetology Program will hire multiple adjunct /staff positions, specifically Nail Instructors and Cosmetology/Barbering Instructors. There will be varying hours and responsibilities for individual positions.

These positions will be physically located at the USU Eastern Campus in Price. The review of applications will begin approximately June 26, 2023. The anticipated start date is August 15, 2023

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate information to students in theory and lab settings related to the current curriculum and industry standards.
  • Promote and uphold Department and University Policies and Procedures.
  • Create and execute semester-by-semester lesson plans of the assigned curriculum. Grade, monitor, and mentor students to help them progress toward their academic goals, including licensure.
  • Be willing to participate in training, including on-the-job, continuing education, seminars, reading, and related work experience to keep current in the industry and attend University training (etc.).
  • Assists students in making responsible and informed decisions impacting academic progress.
  • Encourage and guide students as they define and develop realistic goals.
  • Assist students in understanding the purpose of higher education and its impact on life goals.
  • Help build a learning community among students while using the support system among peers, professors, and mentors.
  • Aid and support students on all clientele, both in theory and lab applications.
  • Maintain records for compiled grading, including attendance, and documentation for student progress.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - Adjunct Staff Instructor

  • Active Cosmetology/Barbering Instructor State License (Utah) and/or Active Nail Technician Instructor State License (Utah)
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse student backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of salon experience
  • 3 years of Theory/Lab/Salon teaching experience
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Ability to motivate students in one-on-one or group advising settings.
  2. Ability to use professional judgment in ambiguous situations.
  3. Verbal and written communication skills and effective public speaking skills, including the ability to communicate with individuals and groups.
  4. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and changing needs while working collaboratively within a team environment.
  5. Ability to learn and maintain current knowledge of complex State and Cosmetology Program requirements, policies, and procedures.
  6. Ability to work with diverse student backgrounds.
  7. Ability to develop and/or deliver new, updated, and current information in program courses.
  8. Knowledge of and proficiency in various current and emerging technology platforms.
