Utah State University is seeking an Instructional Designer I to join our innovative, fast-paced training and development team. As part of the Human Resources’ Training and Development team, you will be responsible for designing and developing e-learning training courses, micro-learnings, videos, and other educational materials. The ideal candidate is someone who understands adult learning principles, has experience building engaging e-learning courses, and is enthusiastic about all aspects of organizational learning and talent development efforts.

The main function of this role will support internal subject matter experts, in collaboration with other instructional design team members, to plan, design, and implement engaging online courses for staff and faculty. This role will also use a small percentage of time in support of USU’s new-hire onboarding program, which includes in-classroom facilitation, classroom support, and campus tours.

1. Assist working with subject-matter experts to assess instructional needs, establish timelines for project completion and identify desired outcomes.
2. Collaborate with training team to develop and produce multimedia content or other learning resources for online learning.
3. Utilize instructional design theories, as well as emerging technologies, to organize and build engaging online courses.
4. Incorporate customer feedback to update or edit current courses.
5. Provide support for various projects related to learning technologies development.
6. Assist with employee inquiries such as calls or help tickets for technical or learning support.
7. Help build and maintain websites and mobile apps as needed.
8. Perform tasks in the learning management system, such as course building, scheduling classes, creating communications and marketing plans, preparing reports, and entering learning data into the LMS.
9. Supports USU’s Onboarding Program including orientation classroom support, facilitation, and campus tours.
10. Assist with the development and delivery of instructor-led training as needed.
11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent of education plus experience is required.
• Skilled in the use of computers, instructional media and graphic design programs, and relevant authoring and programming languages.
• Familiarity with multimedia tools and instructional or web development tools, such as Camtasia, Captivate, Articulate, Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge and understanding of the instructional systems design process.
• Ability to understand and interpret educational needs and to develop effective instructional media solutions.
• Knowledge of learning theory.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design.
• Knowledge of instructional video production principles, methods, techniques, and standards.
• Knowledge of desktop publishing methods, procedures, and requirements.
• Ability to build and maintain website content.
