Incumbents in the Team Leader Facilities series train and supervise the Facilities Service Representatives while coordinating and directing the activities of assigned areas in Housing and Campus Buildings. Incumbents perform direct labor cleaning and maintenance duties as well as personnel assignment, training and management, quality assurance, and inventory control. 


The Team Leader Facilities II may report to a Manager. This classification is responsible to train and guide Facilities Service Representatives.


  • Ensures both the cleaning and maintenance of internal and external assigned facilities.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and makes or recommends purchases to meet the needs of the area.
  • Organizes and conducts cluster meetings.
  • Participates in hiring, training, work allocation, and quality assurance.
  • Trains and informs employees on new work methods and procedures, safety regulations, work policies, codes, and standards.
  • Conducts building audits and inspections to evaluate time management practices and ensure that the quality of work consistently meets established procedures, safety regulations, and control standards.
  • Organizes and coordinates building workloads and implements core and specialty cleaning practices.
  • Coordinates all events and major/minor projects, including deep cleaning without interfering with residents or occupants of the space.
  • Assists in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitors expenditures.
  • Performs direct labor cleaning and maintenance duties as a working member of the department.
  • Enforces proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Promotes personal safety of crew-members by monitoring, evaluating, and enforcing safe behaviors.
  • Provides quality customer service to building occupants.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of commercial or industrial cleaning experience is required. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques, and standards.
  2. Knowledge of hazardous materials coupled with the ability to handle them effectively.
  3. Ability to identify maintenance problems that need the attention of repair personnel.
  4. Knowledge of building safety codes and regulations.
  5. Knowledge of management skills and supervisory theories.
  6. Knowledge of the rules and policies of the facilities maintenance department.
  7. Ability to direct and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  8. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  9. Knowledge of employee development and performance management skills.
  10. Basic computer skills.
  11. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  12. Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
  13. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  14. Skilled at records maintenance.
  15. Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.
  16. Knowledge of proper safety guidelines, policies, procedures, and behaviors as established by OSHA and the Facilities Department.

The environment for this classification varies and includes office environments and outdoor environments.  In the office environment, employees are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily temperature changes.  In the outdoor environment, employees are not protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. The employee may also be exposed to loud noises, vibrations from equipment, and atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.
