Overview

Event Services is a growing department whose primary function is to ensure that the events hosted by Utah State University, "Exceed Expectations".

 

The primary purpose of this position is to build and maintain the positive brand of The Office of Events at Utah State University, including the University Inn as well as USU Catering. This position works closely with USU Marketing and Communications to adhere to USU policy, image and branding guidelines. Job duties include, but are not limited to: developing and implementing marketing plans and sales strategies, promoting and fostering university and community partnerships with The Office of Events, Event Services, University Inn and USU Catering, overseeing the creative team including social media and graphic design, conducting market research and ensuring departmental relevancy and exposure.

Responsibilities

  1. Create and execute marketing strategies, plans, campaigns, and projects.
  2. Promote and maintain positive brand and image through all appropriate avenues including social media, website, print and interpersonal communication and representation.
  3. Create, oversee, and approve marketing product, ensuring proper grammatical standards and adherence to university branding guidelines.
  4. Supervise, hire and train full-time and part-time creative team while collaborating with external team of photographers, web developers, printers, and others to develop marketing materials and campaigns.
  5. Oversee budget including partnerships, purchase and placement of print, web, and social media advertising.
  6. Represent The Office of Events by maintaining appropriate department relationships and certifications with relevant bureaus and agencies.
  7. Plan and coordinate special events such as open houses, outreach and community events, tours, press conferences, banquets, exhibits, product, service fairs, etc
  8. Exemplify and train department staff on best practices, processes and branding guidelines.
  9. Conduct market research, including analyzing data, to identify targeted populations and to identify the appropriate media for distribution of promotional information.
  10. Maintain database records and files including mailing and client lists and publication distribution information.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field plus two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or related field plus four years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of marketing media and funding sources.
  2. Ability to gather data, analyze information, and prepare reports.
  3. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate media activities and special events.
  4. Ability to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources.
  5. Database and records management skills.
  6. Knowledge of marketing strategies, processes, and available resources.
  7. Basic knowledge of writing for search engine optimization (SEO) and social media.
  8. Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  9. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  10. Computer skills, including Word, Access, PowerPoint, InDesign and Excel.
  11. Knowledge of budgeting, fiscal control, and reporting
  12. Ability to exercise a high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion.
