Salt Lake County is seeking a creative and positive person to work as a Program Assistant II to USU Extension 4-H/youth staff. General Hours will be Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm, but this position will also require some week nights and weekend hours. This position will be housed in South Jordan at the USU Bastian Agriculture Center. This is a full-time benefited position. Applicants should be able to work well independently and in a team.


  • Assist USU Extension 4-H/Youth staff in the organization of programs. Develop materials to promote supported community out-reach programming including: assisting staff in the development of educational materials, social media, flyers, brochures, banners, and postcards.
  • Responsibilities include keeping website and social media up-to-date and accurate.
  • Serve as the face of 4-H, by welcoming 4-H members, volunteers and the public to the 4-H Clubhouse, providing information and resources as needed. Handle communication with participants in 4-H/Youth programming through email, answering phone calls and managing resource check out.
  • Produce reports and paperwork related to 4-H/Youth programming, including grants, by maintaining and organizing budgets, travel paperwork, receipts, purchasing and other required reporting and program evaluations. Maintain 4-H enrollment and event registration through the 4-H Database, Zsuite.
  • Assist 4-H Staff with running youth programs, camps and events. This position will also help with volunteer training and development as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience working in an office setting or with youth in a professional or volunteer capacity; OR an associate's degree is required.
  • Self-motivated and able to accomplish a variety of tasks without direct supervision and able to adhere to deadlines.
  • Must display exceptional human relation skills and be able to pleasantly interact with a variety of individuals.
  • Must be able to work effectively with supervisors, clientele, co-workers, volunteers, and professionals.
  • Some flexibility in work schedule required for evening and Saturday events.
  • The selected candidate will be required to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR four years of work experience as an administrative assistant.
  • Motivated individual with a creative thought process.
  • Strong attention to detail and knowledge of marketing.
  • Excellent budget tracking skills.
  • Knowledge of Cooperative Extension services.
  • Ability to speak, understand, and write in Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrate professional workplace manner and ethic.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient knowledge of a variety of Microsoft programs such as word, excel, and other basic computer operations
  • Ability to use or learn Adobe suites.
